I understand the logic of occasionally disabling the comments on your posts. Many people do it when they reblog someone, wanting the comments to go to the originator of the post, rather than on their own blog.
Some feel that this particular post might be heavily controversial, and they don't want to create a battlezone. And some wait, until the battle zone is in full battle, before sending everyone to their rooms without supper.
But today, I came across an individual, riding down the morning's blog roll, and he had a very interesting post, and I wanted to add my commentary. But I noticed that the comments were disabled. It wasn't a particularly controversial post, (it was about six really good reasons to lower the price on your listing) so I wondered why. I hadn't noticed his name or icon before... so maybe he was a newbie, and just had his settings wrong.
So I checked further, and saw that he's been posting on AR Since mid 2008. And at the beginning he did allow comments, although he didn't garner very many. The quality of his posts are pretty good, and would/should warrant some discussions, but right now, with all his comments disabled, all he gets is a soliloquy, rather than a dialogue.
I checked back through some of his posts, to see if maybe there had been a point where he'd been scared-off... but no... just one day, he turned them off and left them off.
I've sent him an e-mail, just to see if by chance he doesn't realize that his comments are disabled, and thinks that Active Rain is a very quiet, cold place... we'll see if he replies.
Sorry, I just don't get it. Half of the point (or maybe MORE than half) of Active Rain is the back and forth you get. The input of ideas on your blog.
I don't get it. He might just as well be sitting all alone on a couch, talking to himself.
