Richiem thanks for that clarification. It really helps. I've migrated to US 25 yrs ago and still trying to understand some of the cliches. I try to use some but find it's better not to do so if I cannot remember the exact words or better yet, meanings.
Dear-a....Indera.....happens to the best of us my dear.....Bungling a good cliche puts a strain on everyone. I suppose not doing it is more preferable than doing it wrong. Cliches have value and make points if we let them....Thank you for sharing this......Best to you
Sometimes it's a lot of fun to listen to the cliches that have become a regaular part of our language, and learn what their origin is.... for example, the "the whole yard" .....
Richie - that is one of my favorite sayings ... and I see it happen every day.
Cynthia...I hear you and I too see it happen every day too. Apparently the one who coined it did something about it but never figured it would be a tongue twister at some point. But we all know what it means
Dagny....its fun too. However, people who come to this great country have these things allude them and are "deer in the headlights" moments for them. Often translating any-ones cliches lose a lot in the explanation. As a remote but connected thought....In a Japanese Karaoke bars, when the famous song AT THE HOP by Danny and the Juniors is chosen to sing...try translating ALL THE CHICKS, GET THEIR KICKS..AT THE HOP BOP BOP BOP BOP in Japanese...It doesn't cut it......so it is with cliches as they travel around the world. What they really mean and what they mean now can be fascinating.....best to you dear girl
Richie ~ This is not President Bush's favorite quote...I think the media made that clear. I should have this posted above my desk...maybe I wouldn't fall for those sellers who try to 'use' me and dictate my business. Take advantage of my dedication once, shame on them....beyond that it's on me!
Hey Chris....you made good use of the cliche in adapting it to Real Estate applications. Fits like a glove too. You know, we give and then we hope to get paid.......Eventually giving and getting paid for it has to line up or we are outta here......Yes? Best
