Who Owns This Day?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Century 21 Sherlock Homes

A few years back, well OK a lot of years back I signed my daughter up for a really nice day camp in the area.  I went for my lungs, I mean it was really expensive.  Five pools, lockers, trips the whole Long Island spoiled kids nine yards.  Allison should have been thrilled, when I was 11 I would have thought I won the lottery.  Low and behold she was not happy.  Every morning whining and complaining about having to go to camp.  I would wait outside with her for the private little air conditioned bus and count the moments until I could run away to work.  To say she was on the last nerve of my body is to put it mildly.

One morning when we were waiting and she was whining I said (and I quote) "Allison, God loves you so much, he loves everything about you and because He loves you so much He has given you this day.  It is your day to enjoy or be miserable about.  You choose.  But, my darling daughter, He loves me too.  He loves me so much that He has given me this day too.  It's my day and I will not let you ruin it."

I want to let you know that God or your Higher Power loves you so much that He or She has given you this day, don't give it away or let anyone steal it from you.  Enjoy.

So true Liz! Oh how I could have used that one a few times on my kids too!!! Funny how those "little ones" can so easily steal our peace at times! It can take a lot of will and resolve...and prayer to remain calm when we sense our blood begining to boil!

Liz, what a great story to share with us, and it is so TRUE.  Happy or not, it is our choice, how to live the day that we are given by God, it is our choice, too.  We should appreciate what we have EVERYDAY, because they will be gone before we know it.

So true, Liz. Thank you for sharing your story. Our attitude sets the tone for our day. I literally spilled iced tea all over the kitchen counter, the floor, my slacks and socks yesterday morning. I didn't know one tumbler of tea could cover that much space but it did. I  didn't let it ruin my dat though even though we were goin gto have an office photo shoot later that day. Just cleaned it up and changed and off I went. We choose to either let something get us down or to stay up. Our mood greatly affects everyone around us too.
