Fountain Hills is a unique Arizona community. Fountain Hills is surrounded by the McDowell Mountains to the West, Fort McDowell Indian Reservation to the East, Salt River Indian Reservation to the South and McDowell Mountain Regional Park to the North.
Developed in the late 1960’s as a planned community, the designer of Disneyland, Charles Wood Jr conceived the idea to create the world’s tallest fountain, which was installed in Fountain Park in 1970. The jewel of Fountain Hills is the 64-acre Fountain Park, home of the town’s namesake geyser. Nearly half the park is a million-gallon reservoir that feeds the fountain and provides a home for migrating waterfowl. The remainder of the park consists of spacious grassy areas, a disc golf course, picnic ramadas, playgrounds, the Veterans Memorial, and an amphitheater. The town of Fountain Hills assumed responsibility for Fountain Park in 1997 and now operates the fountain. Throughout the year, many festivals and special events choose this park as the venue because of its popularity and superb scenery. With the huge fountain as the centerpiece and main attraction, the town of Fountain Hills grew into a desirable homestead for thousands of people.
The recent construction of Loops 101 and 202 makes Fountain Hills more accessible than ever before.
Fountain Hills has a broad range of community activities in addition to the Fountain Park area, that include a library, community center, children’s playground, several tennis and basketball courts, and 2 relatively new 18-hole golf courses, Eagle Mountain and SunRidge Canyon. The community is very festive with its annual lighting of luminaria along public streets for the holiday season, and festivals for arts, Fourth of July celebrations, and the only Thanksgiving Day parade in the State of Arizona.
