Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition Pensacola- On The Build Site!

I was lucky enough to spend some time at the Pensacola Extreme Home Makeover/Earth Cents build site this morning, first as a viewer and then as a volunteer.  For those of you who would like to do the same, here's the scoop:

  • To be a spectator, you need to park your car at the ball field at the corner of Beverly and 'W' Street.  A green shuttle bus picks up passengers about every 20 minutes, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to take visitors to the viewing area.  The viewing area is directly across from the front of the house.
  • To be a volunteer, don't wait to be called, just SHOW UP!  Take 'W' Street to Marcus Pointe Blvd.  From Marcus Pointe, go left on Rambler until you see the police blockade.  Tell them you are there to volunteer and they will send you to the volunteer parking area.  From there, go to the white volunteer tent, sign a release form, and pick up your hard hat and blue volunteer t-shirt.  They will place you wherever they have a current need for volunteers.  Night volunteers are especially needed, as this is a 24-hour, round the clock build.

Trish ~ that had to be really exciting and chaotic at the same time.  That show probably won't air on TV for several months, huh?

Dawn, it's actually really well organized and seemed to run very smoothly.  The episode is set to air December 12th as their Christmas episode.

That must have been quite the experience.  If it were in my area, I would love to volunteer and be part of such an exciting event.

Sharon, it has been fun, and the nice thing is that I also got to help at my daughter's gymnastics, since they were filming there and doing renovations to the gym.

Trish - What a great experience - that show always has me in tears.  It's definitely a "get out the tissues" kind of show.  How wonderful to be a part of it.  What did they have you work on as a volunteer?

Sally, my volunteer part was small- I watched over the VIP tent for a few hours one day, and then helped out at First City Gymnastics while they were fixing the floors and filming.  I'm hoping they cut any parts of the filming that have me in it, as I am not really camera girl and prefer to work in the background, but it was really fun to be a part of everything.
