Wild Turkey strut

For those of you who love all the Thanksgiving fare and want to make some tummy room for that turkey with all the trimmings - here's your chance to work off those calories in advance by joining Rockland Road Runners in their 5 mile Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.  Now, in its 19th year, it's become the largest running event in Rockland County, NY and attracts people from all over the NY metro area as well as Rockland.

The race benefits several local charitable organizations among them People to People of Rockland and the Marisa Fund

The Turkey Trot will take place on November 25, 2010 starting at 8:30 a.m. in Rockland Lake State Park’s north parking lot number 1.  The first two miles of the course are rolling hills, the last three miles are flat (USATF certification #NY03014AM)

You can register for the race at the Rockland Road Runners site.

Pre-race registration and packets can be picked up on Monday, Nov 22, Tuesday, Nov 23, and Wednesday, Nov 24, at the Palisades Center in West Nyack  at the Adler Community Room, 4th Floor(near ice skating rink) between  12 noon - 8:00pm

For those that Pre-register, you get a free long-sleeved shirt.

People also can register on race day between 6:45 and 8 a.m. (but no free shirts)

The fee for running is $25  ($20 for RRR members). Seniors 65 and older can pay $20 by pre-registering.

I love these 5K races....especially these themed ones...and doing one for the hoiday, you can burn a few calories BEFORE you pack more in at dinner!  Great idea!

Pat, if only it really worked off more than it put on.

Melissa - I don't run, but I do walk, or at least I did until this past year when I tore a ligament in my knee that hasn't yet properly healed.

Valerie, hope your knees heal quickly.  I just started going to the gym regularly.  I joined in order to use the bike and eliptical trainers instead of the treadmill (which is a nono for bad knees) and it has helped.

I love the picture, Leah!  Sounds like a great event...I'm not a runner, but my daughter is and I know if she were in the area, she would be joining in!

Sharon , does the picture move you to partake or abstain from turkey?  I don't run either, but I do walk.

Leah  I'd love to do one of these, but that would leave my husband home to start the cooking - that would not be wise  :)

Karen, that must mean that dinner is at your house.  If you put him in charge, he might order it in, or take you out.  Whatever you do, have a happy thanksgiving.

I most definitly will partake...I wouldn't want to eat the turkey in the picture....as long as the turkey I eat is a stranger, I will be ok.

Sharon, hope the turkey and you are strangers until it makes it to the dinner table.  Enjoy the holiday, however you spend it.
