Oma's Pumpkin Patch ~ Lakeside

Don't miss the 11th year Oma's Pumpkin Patch has been providing great fun for East County residents. Looking for a teeny tiny pumpkin? Or maybe one up to 100 lbs. Either way, Oma's has a pumpkin for everyone!

This great pumpkin patch is located at 14950 El Monte Road in Lakeside.Open Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 7 p.m., Oma's is fun for the whole family! One Adult is FREE with a child's paid admission of $7. What does $7 get you? Every child will get a Jack Patch Pumpkin, bottled water, and entrance to all of the fun activities!

Your kids will enjoy activities such as wandering through the Hay Maze, petting the animals in the petting zoo, sliding down Cottonseed Mountain, tons of games and a huge sand pile with trucks and tractors. Maybe you just take a picnic lunch and enjoy the time at the farm under the shade at the picnic tables!

Oma's is an actual working dairy farm.Since 1960 the Van Ommering family has been operating this dairy farm which produces raw milk for sale to processors of milk powder products, cheese and butter. Don't forget to hop on a Hayride while visiting the pumpkin patch and tour the farm to see how cows are raised and fed! Hayrides will leave every half hour with the last one departing at 6:30 p.m.

Oma's can accommodate any group, organization or even a birthday party! Special presentations of "How Pumpkins Grow" are offered for reserved groups! This place is amazing. Go check it out for yourself. The kids will never want to leave!

Wondering what to do with all of those seeds? Here is a great recipe for pumpkin seeds!

4 1/2 cups of Raw Seeds

 1 Tablespoon Cooking Oil

 1 Teaspoon Salt

Mix seeds, salt and oil. Spread mixture on wax paper and let them dry for 24-48 hours

Once seeds are dry, place them on a cookie sheet and cook at 325 for 35-40 minutes

 Cool, Enjoy!

Hi Stephanie -- These places are always so much fun.  I enjoyed once watching these huge sling shots send pumpkins hurling all across a looooooong field.  There is something magical about Fall -- crisp air, apple crisp, cider, hay rides, picking apples, vibrant colors, etc.  Then winter and road salt occurs (at least here in Cleveland)...but there is always Spring to look forward to! lol

Hi Stephanie, what a great post about Oma's pumpkin patch!  Wish I was closer so that I could take my family.  I'm going to try out your recipe with all my pumpkin gut seeds too!

Susan ~ If you have never been out there, it really is worth the trip! Some of the pumpkins are unbelievably big!

Chris ~ I can imagine the mess those pumpkins made after flying across that field! Poor little pumpkins! People are so funny with the things they come up with! I remember a local radio station one year finding the biggest pumpkin they could and dropping it into a parking lot from a crane. People came from all over San Diego to see it smash!

Erika ~ One of the best parts of the season is the pumpkin seeds! Yum!

Well, I have been making pumpkin seeds wrong, too!  No wonder the packaged ones are better than mine.

Pumpkin patches are great fun, even for us big kids.  :)

Stephanie - what a great seasonal Localism post, and one so worthy of being featured! Bet folks will be finding this on Google before long.  You always do such a good job on your local area posts.

I have done nothing about Halloween events because of too much else going on. I need to get crackin'.

Stephanie, Great post. I left San Diego before Oma's opened but it sounds like fun. Our family always toasted the pumpkin seeds and they never lasted very long. Happy Halloween!

Sounds like a great place to spend an afternoon.  And, thanks for the recipe.  I never knew to let them dry first - always just toasted them in the oven and they were just kind of okay.

Happy Friday Everyone! Thanks for the feature! I love doing Localism posts on things going on here in East County San Diego! You really would be surprised how many phone calls I get from these things. Sometimes it is just with additional questions about the event, but hey making new friends is always good; networking is networking!

I hope the rain stops here so everyone can enjoy Oma's for the weekend!
