I Captured an Elk... With My Camera of Course...

This big guy was out for a stroll just a little West of the development "Elk Haven" in Sedro Woolley.  Nice to see that all the construction has not kept these magnificent animals away.... 

I was returning from a home inspection in Concrete when I saw a few cars pulled off the side of the road and the people all had cameras... I looked in the direction they were looking and saw this big elk wandering around.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my tri-pod with me and the elk was at least 500 yards away... My camera has a fantastic zoom on it, but when you shoot something that far away with a full 790mm zoom a tripod is pretty much necessary to get a crystal clear shot.

VERY COOL, Bill!  I'm glad you were able to get your pics, don't be worried about perfection.

Bill, it's still a great photo. It's fascinating to see animals roaming in the wild. Good timing.

Great pictures of an elk.  I bet that was an experience shooting this elk.

It was really cool seeing the Elk... I've never seen one before. He seemed to stroll around like he owned the place with the occasional stare at the people looking at him to make sure we were not a threat (or as a warning to stay back, I'm not sure)... In either event, there was plenty of safe distance for everyone, including the Elk.

It may have only lasted about 5 minutes, but it was a really cool 5 minutes!
