Home Staging, Design & Decor Tips

Not sure what HIP TIPZ is?  Please click on Our Introduction to find out more.  Now, let's get down to business -it's time to roll:

HIP TIPZ #131

Tired of your lamps?  You may not need to buy new.  Try replacing the lampshades.  Sometimes that'll do.

HIP TIPZ #132

Selling your home?  Be sure to look at the hardware on your front door.  If it's pitted and worn, replace it.  Make the first impression a good one!

HIP TIPZ #133

Is your brass chandelier dated?  Add black mini-shades for a chic, updated look.

Remember: the shades will conduct more heat, so it's VERY IMPORTANT to make sure that the plastic cylindrical tubing below each bulb (the tubing that hides the wires) is cut down low enough that it isn't too close to the bulb.  If in doubt, don't do it.

HIP TIPZ #134

Decorative lacquer boxes look great on a bookcase and also serve as an extra storage spot for special, tiny trinkets.

HIP TIPZ #135

Repurpose your old bi-fold doors by covering them with leftover wallpaper from your decorating project.  They make a great room divider and since it's the same as the paper on your wall, it ties everything together.  Best part: you're making use of existing items. A green idea!

Couldn't agree with tip 132 more Charlene! Nothing is worse than standing with clients waiting for the Owner to answer staring at a neglected front door!

Great tips Charlene and the safety issue with the shades is one I never knew!

Al & Peggy - It's so true that the entrance to a house is the first impression that buyers will get of the property.  When I do consultations, I'm surprised by how many times the front door or its hardware is very tired looking.

Karen - The lamp shades will generate even more heat if the inside of the shades has a foil lining.  Better to be safe than sorry and make sure that the plastic cylinders are cut low enough.

David - That sure is strange.  I appreciate you letting me know about it.  I'll be posting another blog post shortly.  Hopefully it won't appear the same way.
