Five Social Media Roles, Old And New Terms, + SUPER Tool List For You
Are you a creator, critic, joiner, spectator or are you in a coma? Great post on the 5 social media roles. I am a huge creator and critic for sure.
In Social Media there are pretty much five roles you will find yourself or others in.
Creator - Blogging, Podcasting or Tweeting
Critic - Reviewing and Replying
Joiner - Just updating a profile
Spectator - Read blogs, a lurker
In a Coma - Do nothing, oblivious to it all, cannot figure out why anyone would waste any of their life with any of this stuff
In being top of mind with two way conversations and getting the most out of the search engines you want to be a Creator (4 blogs a month, 7 tweets a week) and a Critic, a regular commenter and active with replies.
The new social media can also be compared to older forms of advertising and communication. Look at it this way:
Old: Telegram New: Twitter
Old: High School Yearbook New: Facebook, a Yearbook on Steroids
Old: Rolodex New: LinkedIn
Old: Television New: YouTube
also check out Google TV
Old: Newspaper New: Blogs
Old: Encyclopedia Britannica and the Yellow Pages New: Google
Also the shortest shelf life is twittering a bit of communication and the LONGEST shelf life is blogging, so keep blogging. People will find you eventually and what your write.
