From Day Planner to Google Calender --> Real Estate & Ever-Changing Technology

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Lifestyle

For the past 26 years, I have worked in Maui real estate.  Over this time, I figured out how I like to do things, and these habits became second nature while on the job.  For example, I still keep a hand written record of daily tasks in my Frankiln Covey Day Planner.  However, over the past few years, I have recognized the importance of ever-changing technology and how it benefits the real estate industry.  The Internet has forever changed the way this business is done.  Consumers now have the power to research best values, receive updates automatically, and even take a tour of the property without ever leaving the computer screen.

With the help of my 3 sons, I have become increasingly more tech-savvy over the past decade or so.   I now run my own real estate website, which provides a resource to my clients or just other prospective buyers or sellers of Maui property.  I also recently switched brokerages to one of the most technologically progressive in the country, Hawaii Life.  Now I use their online contact management system (with Highrise), and even have tasks planned out digitally (through Basecamp).

Hawaii Life also stresses the importance of blogging, and I have become a regular writer myself, both on my Maui Real Estate blog and Hawaii Life’s.  I have become a huge fan of this type if communication and now read blogs all over the Internet.  This, along with social media platforms such as FaceBook and Twitter, has lead me to build so many great relationships and connections that I would have otherwise never made

If you are interested in learning more about what’s happening on the Valley Isle – I highly recommend reading these 2 Maui blogs:
A Maui Blog – Run by a local Maui mom, Liza Pierce, this is one of the most popular blogs about our island.  She covers a wide variety of topics and provides a true local perspective.  She is also an avid social media user, with a Twitter following of over 6,000!

VisitMaui Blog – Run by the Maui Visitors Bureau, this weekly updated blog has great content and spectacular photos!  They tend to focus on current events happening around the island, so that you have something new and fun to do every month!

Paradise Found In Maui Blog - A great resource for visitors to Maui, this daily updated blog highlights the best Maui adventures as well as stories from visitors about their vacation.  They are even running a contest for the best Maui vacation story!

I think blogging is an awesome way to stay connected with your interests and I highly recommend starting one if you haven’t already.  You don’t need to have it just focused on real estate – check out my blog for example.  I highlight my favorite beaches to go to, where to surf, and best places to eat.  Write about topics that are enjoyable to you, because they are easy, fun, and provide a much needed escape in the middle of the business day!

No Twitter here, but I do use quite of a bit of technology working with realtors on distressed properties.

I frankly don't have time to keep up with that, especially now that I have found Active Rain.

Dan,

Technology provides an array of tools we can use.  Some are time savers, but others are more like toys.

Just went to two different classes about keeping up with the latest technology stuff at the Colorado Association of Realtors Convention last week.  Here is my new focus - blog, stay in touch with past clients at least monthly, and list and sell to the clients those endeavors present to me.  It really helped me to narrow my focus.  Hope you are enjoying warm and sunny weather.  Winter in quickly arriving here in Co.

It is so important now more than ever to stay on top of real estate technology as it puts you high up in the eyes of our clients.
