Are you a dog lover?  Do puppy mills put you into a fit of anger or send tears to your eyes?  Would you like to see Missouri do something about all of the puppy mills?  If so, vote yes on Proposition B.  If you’re not from Missouri, you can still help… go to www.yesonpropb.com and donate!  This issue is important for dogs in Missouri, but in the long run will be extremely important for dogs all over this country.

The language below is from the Proposition.

“The Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act is a measure that will improve the lives of dogs in commercial breeding operations in Missouri. Specifically, the measure will require large-scale dog breeding operations to provide each breeding dog under their care with the basics of humane animal care including:

         Sufficient food and clean water;

         Necessary veterinary care;

         Sufficient housing, including protection from the elements;

         Sufficient space to turn and stretch freely, lie down, and fully extend their limbs;

         Regular exercise; and

         Adequate rest between breeding cycles.

The measure will limit the number of breeding dogs to 50 per facility, but does not apply to breeders with 10 or fewer intact female dogs. The 50 breeding dog limit will help ensure the operations do not become overcrowded or spiral out of control, but will still allow individual breeders to sell hundreds of puppies each year. The initiative does not affect individuals who raise hunting dogs, livestock facilities, or animal rescue and shelter operators that are not involved in commercial sale of puppies. The law will enable Missouri to join several other states that have enacted similar laws through their state legislatures.”

I'm not from Missouri, but I think that puppy mills should be taken apart and busted. I'm an animal supporter overall, and I support our local no kill human society in Delta County. I just recently rescued two kittens from a foreclosure house that I listed. We had to bottle feed them.

Jim & Linda,

Personally, I am an animal lover--especially dogs.  I am for this legislation, even if it is just a start.

It's time that we learned to live with our animals the way they do in England, France and many other European countries.

Why is everything always for profit?

I wish they would do it for all animals, cats, dogs, birds and even cows. It really has gotten out of hand all in the name of making money.
