I swear, I could care less if I get any points for this post. The reason for this post at all is to prove that real estate agents should either turn off their phone entirely or expect to get calls (on Labor Day). A few minutes ago, I received my fourth call from a perspective buyer of one of my listings. Turning off my phone on a day when I am just relaxing is kind of like saying, I do not want any business today. (Excuse me, I just got interrupted with my fifth buyer call of the day) I am all about family time, in fact, we are having a family BBQ later today but tuning out on a day when people are still buying and selling houses gives new meaning to the expression, taking time off.

Of course, some calls are a waste of time but many will be well worth the time spent (even on Labor Day) to keep your phone turned on. After all, what do many people do on Labor Day, they are not laboring, they are driving neighborhoods, looking for homes. Makes perfect sense to me.

Who in their right mind would turn off their phone in this market, or any market.

My phone is always on.  I have made a very good referal today from a phone call.  It's Labor Day, not Laborless Day.  Labor Day is a day off for government employees to go out and look at homes for sale.

It's the nature of the business.

In this business if you don't make yourself available to your customers, you loose the business because they will find someone else to call. Our motto is .... If You're Working ... We're Working !!!

I never turn my phone off.  I am playing in the state chess championships today so my phone is on vibrate.  I return calls when I take breaks.

I'm off to go show a home to a buyer today - second showing of this home, so hopefully we'll be writing an offer and then bringing other people to work on Labor Day, too.  It's the nature of the beast.

Labor Day is a national holiday that was created for the purpose of recognizing the contribution of working people, including members of organized labor unions, to American life.  The idea that caused Labor Day to be later adopted as a national holiday was supposedly originated by J. Peter McGuire, a carpenter and co-founder of the American Federation of Labor (later to become part of the AFL-CIO).

Of course, Labor Day is not just for Union workers.  And lots of people work on Labor Day weekend, myself included.  A local agent friend told me it's been one of his best sales weekeds this year!

I know a few agents who are not working today and I wondered "Why?" There are a lot of people off who want to look at houses. I got a call this morning from a cash buyer and we're doing the contract tomorrow!

BTW...they found me because of Acrive Rain! You never know where your clients are going to come from!  Thanks AR!
