What Did I Miss in this Book?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with CastNet Realty TREC#263257

I spent an hour and a half today reading a very good book.  I got thru about 5 pages.  It is a real estate training book and has some very good ideas and tips in it.  I started to read a sentence or two and would stop and evaluate each word and each thought and try to understand the whole meaning of what was being said.

I would begin to read again and I could not go past two to three sentences without examining the complete idea and processes that were being discussed.  I tried to relate how this would pertain to me and my business.  How could I adapt these principles to my business and what could the possible outcome be?

Have you ever read a good book and enjoyed it thoroughly, thought it gave some good insights to you but when you finished it, the book went on the bookshelf?  When did you pick it up again?  Or have you ever picked it up again?  The wonderful thing about books, is the knowledge is still there and we can always glean more from it the second or third or fourth time we read it.

The message of this blog is slow down and reread.  How much have we actually missed.  What treasures are lying dormant on the bookshelf?  Go dust off your favorite real estate book and find a treasure this weekend that you can incorporate in your business this week.  They are there, just have to look for them.  It may be something you forgot about or maybe something you missed.

It's a great weekend for reading!

Ricki, I try to set aside an hour a day to read because I think its very important and I feel the book was worth reading if I get at least one good idea.  Keep Reading!

Ricki: great suggestion---I think I read more AR posts than anything else and, yes, I slow down and read them carefully! Very nice post--good luck with your ideas from your RE book!

Hi Paula,   AR is great for information but processing all of it takes some time.  Best to you too!!!! :)

Hi Ricki,

I still go through my old college books from time to time. Sometimes the information you gain from a book is priceless, as well as timeless. You don't have to know everything, but you should no where to find it when you need it. Books are awesome that way.

You should join the Activerain book club.

Hi Ricki... fantastic advice as usual!  I have several books that I go back to time and time again and each time they serve me better than the last time.
