It's another wonderful fall morning here in Warren County Ohio! The leaves have been quickly dropping...yes, I know the lawn needs raked/blown....it's on THE LIST! :)
We have a bench seat in our office that is perhaps our cats' favorite spot! A big pillow and fleece blanket make a comfortable spot to watch the outside world, and they take full advantage of the opportunity! The cat in the picture is Paisley. She's got a ton of character, thinks she's the boss of all cats in the home, and also thinks she could take out a deer! She sees a deer in the woods around our house and she starts protesting their presence!
Our cats are basically rescue cats, just skipping the SPCA step. They were abandoned on our road and showed up at our home and we've adopted them. They've all been "fixed", so no more little kittens from our "pride". They make life a little more interesting, a lot more entertaining. We've had both dogs and cats over the years, and can't imagine our home without pets of some sort!

Randy, They are each totally unique, as were the Shelties we used to have. We've always had lots of pets, and no expectation that will change! Some of our cats act like dogs and will play fetch!

Barbara, We used to breed and show Shelties, it seemed 15 was the age we couldn't get them past. Our last dog passed a couple of years ago, shortly after the first bunch of cats "found" us. We've made the transition, although sometimes still miss having a dog or two around the house.
Amy, I can't say how many we have, or people might think we're crazy cat people! Our cars are in the driveway, the two car garage is the cat shelter at night, during the day weather permitting we have big 28 x 40 ft cat pen in the back yard that we let them romp around in. Shrews and snakes beware and stay out, or bad things happen to you! :)

She looks posed to be quite the Guard Cat. :) I'm not really a cat person, but we do have a rather cool neighborhood cat named Freddy. Freddy is so HUGE that we thought he was a she and pregnant when we moved in 5 years ago. Freddy and his gang keep the mice away from our home, so I am grateful for that. They do have homes, but I'm glad they maraud around the neighborhood.

BLiz - As a long time pet mama, our home has also been blessed with both kitties and doggies. Currently, we have three doggies who are the center of our home life. They get lots and lots of love and affection and they are wonderful companions. During the day, they too keep me company. My baby Sadie is an absolute ball hound and forces me to take play breaks during the day to play with her. My Joie is just content to sit by and snooze.

I discovered this week that my 13 year old cat tabby Jasper has gone deaf. It took about a week to dawn on me that something wasn't quite right but I couldn't put my finger on it. We are learning to adjust our routine and especially not to sneak up on him. Even Alley his tormentor has figured out something is different and seems to be taking a gentler approach.

Kristen, We wish more of the shrews would come up in cat territory! Tired of almost breaking our angles stepping on the soft tunnels in the yard. Destructive little critters! Sounds like Freddy and company are doing their job in your neighborhood!
Al & Peggy, She loves attention, very trusting, often flops down in the hallway right in your walking path...Pay attention to me!!
Donne, The pets can be pro and con, a lot of fun, but really distracting sometimes when you're trying to get some work done! They work to their own little schedules...or chaos!

Cindy, I could see how with a cat it might be hard to tell when they go deaf, since they ignore us routinely! Glad everyone figured it out and is making the adjustments!

Greg, Our dogs were all purebred Shelties. Liz was a good breeder/handler, had one top 40 in the nation at one point...but the politics and time just got too great, so everyone got to relax and be pets.
The cats are a trip...just never know what they'll do next!
The woods and yard around us were one of the main draws for us when we bought the place in 92! When it's time, someone will snap it up for the same reason, but absolutely no hurry to go anywhere yet!

Endre, The solution was pretty easy when they found us. The no kill shelters were full, the SPCA said if we brought them in they MIGHT get 24 hours...just couldn't do that to them. I could be driving a BMW if we DIDN'T have them...but that would only be fun for a little a day, and the cats are 24/7/365.

Okay, I believe we have an issue -- Cinnamon has been flat in bed all weekend with a fever, aches and pains. So, tonight I am sitting on the bed with Zoe as she's about to drift off, I turn on the computer and click to this post. Up pops her head and she says, "Okay, that looks like my cat! Where is that cat? Does it have a name? It looks just like Big Kitty. I told you someone had Big Kitty!"
I have explained to her that you live several states away and it couldn't possibly be Big Kitty. She is not satisfied and wants to know "Exactly where did they get Big Kitty? I know my cat!" Okay, so she's a bit like her mother -- Whew! I am now going to push the submit button and try to explain this to a very adamant 7 year old. (We have 3 dogs and 3 cats!) Please take good care of Zoe's cat!!!!!! LOL
