Big fires are nothing new and the impact that they have on a community can take years to tally. The Roseville Galleria fire is a little different as it relates to one thing. The quick and aggressive response form Roseville city leaders. Most places would have focused on pointing fingers as to why this happened followed by months of red tape that only delay the rebuilding process.  By the end of the day Roseville Mayor Gina Garbolino was talking about declaring a state of emergency.

The following day city manager Ray Kerridge made note of Roseville city officials working hard with other government agencies and the property owner to get a solid plan that would at least have part of the mall open for what is known as Black Friday. This was done even before the investigation really even got under way. WOW if you ask me. Usually these types of incidents are followed by months of planning and making sure bids go out and so on and so on.

Ray Kerridge has a long history of dealing with rebuilding. While his stay in Sacramento was some what short and his success hard to measure, his connection and experience with present day Portland one of the best cities to live in is worth mentioning. Roseville scored big with him. As a citizen of Roseville I have to say it was good to see leaders talking and addressing real time problems instead of some assistant talking about how they are in discussions and will get back to us later.

Their ability to recognize the magnitude of this incident and the impact not only to the city of Roseville but the region, can be seen in a full page add in the Sacramento Bee thanking a total of 34 agencies form all over. While we may not agree with how government operates all the time, its actions like this that one has to be thankful some was paying attention and did their job. Its actions like this that attract new business and development.
