The Fort Bend County Women's Center located in Richmond Texas ( FBCWC) helps survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children with providing a variety of need services that helps  these poor folks live in a violence -free environment and away from the batterers and abusers. The Women's Center provides emergency shelter and other services including counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, financial assistance, transportation, job training and numerous other life skills. The Women's Center has a 65 bed fully staffed emergency shelter and unfortunately the facility is always full. The Center estimates that it has helped over 30,000 women, children and men survive domestic violence and and thrive in their new lives.

The FBCWC is right now in desperate need of donations of canned vegetables and canned fruit. The primary items they are trying to collect are green beans, green peas, corn, carrots, spinach and other leafy canned vegetables. All canned donations of things such as ravioli, shaghettios, tomato paste and cranberry sauce are appreciated but the Shelter really needs canned healthy vegetables. The requested donations feed the Shelter's residents( many are children under 12). The Shelter uses two industrial-sized ( 96 oz) cans or 26 regular-sized cans ( 6 oz.) per each type of vegetable for each day's  lunch and dinner. The Shelter serves its residents breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks each and every day.

If you can help please drop off donations of food or cash at any one of the three PennyWise Resale Centers being PennyWise Richmond at 12120 Highway 90A; PennyWise Stafford at 12345 Murphy Road; and PennyWise Mission Bend at 6808 Highway 6 South. If you want more information about helping this group please call them at 281-344-5750.

If you can contribute please do so as this group spends its money to help folks who really need help and the funds are NOT used to pay Executive salaries and perks. Any type of donation is welcomed...

Bob,

This has been one of my pet charities for many years thanks for letting me know. When I go to the grocery store this week I definitely will but some cans! I have donated to them for years! Sometimes they have drives for professional business clothing!

Bob, thanks for posting this and hope the shelter gets many donations. I volunteer at the YWCA store here in Fort Worth when I can and they also support women and children in need. It's a very worthwhile cause!

Tessa,Thank you for your comments and I completely agree that both the Fort Worth and Fort Bend County groups are worthwhile causes and should be supported by folks who can afford to  even in these rough economic times.

GOOD MORNING ROBERT!  I am glad there is a push for healthy foods - it's good for the adults and especially needed for the children.  Hopefully it will be successful! -- Gab
