I have to chuckle almost every time that I use the spell checking utility here on ActiveRain's text editor.  (the "abc" icon in the editor's tool bar)

To start with; the program doesn't recognize "Activerain" ... suggesting the word be separated into "active rain" or hyphenated as "Active-Rain".  Other words one may expect the spell checker to easily recognize are "Google" (top suggested correction is goggle) and sometimes (but not always) "Microsoft".

The spell checker is extremely functional.  It is very easy to make common corrections by just highlighting and clicking on the suggested replacement.

Please comment with any other common words that that spell checker should recognize.  The folks at Activerain may use them to update their programming.

I really like using mozilla firefox instead of internet explore for many reasons but it does have a great little spell checker built in. It will let me know as I'm typing my text if I have misspelled a word. I rarely use a spell checker since I've had this.

I think it is funny that it thinks the word * blog * is spelled wrong.

Larry...

It only recognizes one form of spelling for Blonde :)

But then again Google doesn't recognize the alternate spelling of Blond either.

And the AR checker does a burp on Google :)

I think it also need to be taught who TLW is :)

TLW...ROAR!

I've commented about the ActiveRain feature before, what is equally as funny is it does not recognize the word "BLOG".

I for one love the Google toolbar spellcheck.  It is programmable, unlike the AR version, plus it moves at the speed of Google - highlighting all of the misspellings at once.

I find it can't discern between improper uses of lose and loose or their and there.  :-D

Matthew, most spell checkers don't check grammar, too. That's a separate function.

Subprime is another.  Larry you have to give honourable mention to TLW.

It is surprising how many people either don't use or just don't know the spell checker is there.
