It May Be a Sign that the Economy is Trying to Come Back to Life - Google Server Farm to Return to Pryor Oklahoma.

Way back in the Spring of 2007, there was some exciting news in the state of Oklahoma.  Google was considering building a server farm that would bring about 100 jobs into the state.  It would be built in the Pryor area.  Based on a data center that Google was going to build in Lenoir, N.C., which was estimated to have a $600 million economic impact and create 210 new jobs, it was a pretty exciting prospect.

Pryor Oklahoma Google Server Farm

However, when the economy crashed, Google decided to pull the plug (pardon the pun) on the Server Farm in Pryor, Oklahoma.  That was bad news as Gatoraide was pulling out at about the same time.

Recently, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce announced that Google will resume work on the Server farm and that they were seeking to hire 80 employees immediately.  Applicants should have experience in IT management, Linux, hardware as well as electrical and mechanical backgrounds.

Pryor, Oklahoma, the site of the Google Server Farm, is about an hour away from both Owasso and Tulsa.  However, an hour's drive in Oklahoma is not the same as an hour's drive in big cities like LA, Houston or Dallas.  So, while many of those who work at the Google Server farm may choose to live in the Pryor, Oklahoma area, they may also choose to live in areas such as Claremore, Owasso, Tulsa or other surrounding communities.  Either way, this project will be good for the economy in Northeastern Oklahoma areas.

Whether or not this is an early sign of our economy trying to sputter back to life remains to be seen.  One thing is for sure though.  It's good news for Oklahoma!

Bob - That certainly is great news for your area - as well as an indicator (hopefully) of better times ahead.

That's great news, Bob, and I hope it comes to pass. Here in the Silicon Valley and San Mateo County, people are feeling more cautiously optimistic than 6 months ago and that's being reflected in our real estate market. One transaction of mine in San Jose closed 2 weeks ago; two are set to close on November 3, one in Belmont the other in Redwood City. Two new potential buyers contacted me last week and appointments are set to help them move forward. I wish the same for your area.
