WI Animal Lovers, Please Help!!!
Hello Wisconsin friends. I wanted to share this story that Kristin posted regarding animals in need in your area. If you can help by fostering or adopting, please do. Spread the word as you can, hopefully these animals will receive the help that they need. It's very sad for the homeowner who has been letting this rescue use her property. What a hard time this is for so many.
Thank you,
Chris

MAPPAR (The Midwest Animal and Potbellied Pig Association and Rescue) Sanctuary is losing its property due to economic conditions and is in need of placing its animals while it re-organizes with a new Board so that the mission of providing sanctuary for rescued animals may continue. Since many sanctuaries have already closed in an area where there was already a shortage of animal rescues, it is imperative that the animals get placed until another multi-species animal sanctuary can be established.
The animals in need of adoption/temporary foster care are:
17 cats (4 feral cats), 4 hens, 1 rooster, 7 cows, 4 farm pigs, and 4 potbellied pigs
The owner of the property who has loaned the land to MAPPAR and the animals has fallen under financial hardship and has filed bankruptcy. The animals have only a few months to vacate the property.
The large animals, such as the domesticated cattle rescued by an associate rescue organization of MAPPAR and now residing at the MAPPAR sanctuary, especially face an ominous future unless emergency placement is found. The few sanctuaries that provide placement for large animals are not only full and not accepting new placements, but are also in other areas of the country.
MAPPAR has been an established non-profit 501(C) 3 organization since 1996, and services a large number of rescue organizations in both Wisconsin and Illinois. The sanctuary is not funded by any local, state, or federal entity, and is operated solely by volunteers. MAPPAR receives as many as 10-20 animal placement requests daily, and they have had to stop rescuing animals, since their property is foreclosing. Additionally, MAPPAR’s volunteers have helped WI residents acquire free and low-cost spay/neuter services and vaccinations for dogs and cats. They have also provided TNR (trap neuter release) services in an effort to control the overpopulation of Wisconsin’s unwanted and homeless cats.
If you know anyone who can adopt the animals or provide foster care until the new sanctuary can be established, please contact Diana Rondone at animals@mappar.org or (608) 215-8658.
Future Plans
MAPPAR has teamed up with a Coalition of several nonprofit sanctuaries and created The HEART Coalition (Helping Each Animal Receive Time), which is looking for property in southern Wisconsin to establish a large Midwestern animal sanctuary.
More information about the MAPPAR connection to the primary organizations comprising The HEART Coalition, which also includes rescuers of farm animals, domestic animals, primates, and wildlife, can be found at: http://www.privatelandownernetwork.org/library/article.aspx?id=149
