Addison Redevelopment Project

Addison Circle Retail & Living SpaceAccording to Addison Magazine, the Fall 2007 issue, a major redevelopment project is about to begin in Addison.  United Dominion Realty Trust (UDRT) is acquiring approximately 2,400 rental units near Brookhaven Country Club with the intention of tearing them down and rebuilding new ones in their place.  These are the apartments currently on Brookhaven Club Drive and may possibly include some along Marsh Lane and Spring Valley Road.

UDRT plans to include office space and retail space in the reconstruction, expected to take 6-10 years.  The new west side development will rival Addison Circle, the north side self-contained master-planned community with brownstone style apartments intergrated with retail, dining and office storefronts.  The plan is to continue the new urbanism theme, blending work, retail and housing all within the same community.

When I first moved to Dallas (almost 30 years ago), I lived in an apartment on Spring Valley near Brookhaven Club Drive for a few years.  A revitalization of the area now is a positive step.  But where and how will the 2,400+ current residents be absorbed?

That is great to hear.  I think that area needs some help.  Thanks for the update!

2400 isn't that much. really. I bet they fill the place pretty quick.

I hear of people talking about Addison a lot.

Fun place for young professionals

UDRT is planning to double the density to 5,000 units!  And they're anticipating the creation of a park and the extension of the trail to the Addison Athletic Club. Their working name for this is "The Brookhaven Project."

Addison is a fun place for us old fogies, too.  We've got shopping, restaurants, theater and more.  We embrace the "live, work, play and stay" philosophy.  And speaking of playing, Oktoberfest is right around the corner....

It's a shame that Addison which I thought I would never move from wants to price out middle class Americans.  True it could use a face lift and I am appalled that certain people can just discard the lives of over 2400 people like that. I am sure you lose no sleep because hey we just live, and buy there. Funny though you have no problems accepting money from those you throw into the streets. And just for your education, the people at the Talisker like to cook the books so to speak. I know they used illeagal means to tap into my account for my apartment when I lived there.  I am sure the IRS would love to hear about that one.

There is affordable housing in Addison, whether you are renting or buying.  You DO have to have decent credit, though.  Let me point you to the local IRS office which is very close by, in Farmers Branch.  Head south on Midway Road towards LBJ freeway and turn right onto Alpha.  It will wind around and the Federal Building is on the left, across from the new townhome development.

Ah, Addison! Not a city, but a "town." The Town of Addison. The best place to live and work in North Texas. There's something to be said about a place that doesn't take itself too seriously. Note the exclamation point in the town's name. Here you'll find the ruminations, rants and raves of one of the town's realtors and residents.
