Fashion Island Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in

Newport Beach, California

In Orange County, California one of the most highly anticipated events of the holiday season has to be the treeNewport Beach Christmas tree lighting at Fashion Island lighting ceremony at the Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach.

For many Orange County residents, this evening marks the official beginning of the holiday season as the tree lighting kicks off on "black Friday", the day after Thanksgiving.

This year's tree lighting will include all of the usual fanfare including a visit from Santa and a stage show complete with singing and dancing, which is usually performed by the students from the local Orange County Performing Arts High School.

The main event of the Fashion Island extravaganza is, of course, the tree lighting itself. Onlookers are completely mesmerized as the massive tree is switched on and the 17,000+ lights and ornaments illuminate the entire area. It is truly remarkable to see and realize how much work has gone into decorating this gigantic (and real) tree, which is recycled at the end of the holiday season.

This is definitely a must see for people of all ages, and you would be hard pressed to find a resident of Orange County, California, that hasn't experienced this holiday tradition.

Fashion Island Mall is located at 401 Newport Center Drive in Newport Beach, California, 92660.

The 2010 Fashion Island Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held in the Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale's Courtyard on Friday, November 19th and Saturday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m. each evening.

Because Fashion Island is located in Newport Beach, and is not far from the ocean, plan on bringing warm coats or jackets.

Also, due to the popularity of the event, it would be my advice that you arrive early and do some shopping and have an early dinner at one of the many restaurants in and around Fashion Island prior to the show and tree lighting. Keep in mind, the closer you park to the stores and the event, the longer it will take you to get out of the parking lot when the tree lighting is over, so it might be a good idea to park closer to an exit in the parking lot and walk a bit farther to the courtyard.

I wish you and your family a very happy and safe holiday season!
