More plans for growing the southern boundaries of Olathe, KSOlathe Kansas

There have been proposals and offerings on a new interchange at 159th and I-35 for the past few years in Olathe, and it appears as though these changes are developing into reality.  Although, the plan may be a ways off, it is to the credit of our city council and planning committee that they are thinking ahead and planning appropriately.

The Lone Elm Vicinity Plan now appears to have a corporate and retail slate placed on it versus a large lot residential neighborhood that was once on the table.  Olathe has a large retail development now at 119th Street and I-35 that has placed several major retail and shopping centers on both sides of the interstate.  Bass Pro Shop just moved on the west side and on the east is side there is an AMC 30 theater complex, several restaurants, shopping with the Home Depot, Best Buy, Target, Office Max, Dick's Sporting Goods, a New Olathe Pointe shopping and retail area and many other retailers at this location.  It has taken a few years for this to develop, but it has become a very well traveled area now that development has filled in the gaps.  I have watched Olathe's growth over the past 20 plus years and it is very encouraging to see why Olathe is one of the top growing cities in the nation.

For the future, 159th and Lone Elm currently provide open ground with a few major corporate warehouses like Pacific Sun (a huge complex of it's own).  One area on the other side of the intersection is Cedar Lake, a 56 acre community lake that provides fishing and boating.  I would hate to see this destroyed by building corporate and retail businesses.  I'm sure the city council will keep it in mind as they plan for future growth.  It could take another 20-30 years for development to really take hold, but there are plans for this area to develop in the very near future.

There is already some major real estate developing communities like Nottington Creek at 175th street that will provide competition to a high demand area called Arbor Creek at 159th street east of the proposed interchange.

This all goes to show how the future of Olathe will continue for some time.

Before I met you on AR, I always thought of Olathe as a sleepy little town - you sure have changed my mind on that score.  It sounds like Olathe is a wonderful place to live offering so much to those makie it home!

Marlene, I could sure use the sleepy part! I guess I may be a bit partial to my town, but it really has developed into a great community!  Thanks for commenting!
