Is This What You Want? Searching For the Right House in San Antonio

"Is this what you want?" is a question I ask from time-to-time as I show prospective buyers who are searching for the right house in the San Antonio area.

Before actually going out to see houses, I like to talk to the buyers and get as good an idea as possible about their needs and wants for their new home. The better idea I can have about the client's wants and needs for their new

Now sometimes, buyers have only a vague idea of what they want. "I'll know it when I see it", is what I hear sometimes. This is usually a very challenging match-up. I'll find you a house, but this assignment will usually take a bit longer because we have to search enough of the houses to really hone in on what the buyer wants.

Here are a few things a buyer can do in preparing for that next home search:

  1. What price range is comfortable for you?
  2. Check with your lender and get pre-approved for that price range. You'll be sorely disappointed if you find the house of your dreams but cannot get a mortgage for that amount.
  3. Check magazines, and websites to get design ideas and information on styles that you may want in your house. When you find the look that appeals to you, share it with your Realtor® . That can really help in identifying houses that may be right for you.
  4. As you look at houses, try to avoid rejecting a house just because you hate the paint colors. Paint is the least expensive feature to change in a house. If you love the house, but hate the paint selections, consider buying the house and changing the paint colors before moving in. Sometimes, the seller will provide a paint allowance.

No house is perfect. Expect some imperfections. That does not mean you can only look at three houses like you see on HGTV and you will have the house of your dreams. However, the sooner you can figure out what you want, what you like, and what you are willing to accept, and clearly communicate to your agent, the sooner you'll be able to find your next house.

Then when I ask you , "Is this what you want?", our search for your next house in San Antonio will almost be complete.

Hi Wayne,   THe interview is so important to determine the needs and wants of the buyer.  Until you know what to look for, it is just a wild goose chase.
