Is The Omni Chain The Next Example of Corporate Money Influencing Elections?

Via The Huffington Post comes this interesting post about billionaire Robert Rowling using his corporate clout to try to influence the November 2nd elections:

WASHINGTON -- The owner of Gold's Gym International is defending his $2 million donation to the conservative political group American Crossroads, saying that it has nothing to do with his personal or his company's stance on social issues. But the spotlight is now being turned on a hotel chain he owns, with a prominent gay rights group saying it may think twice before booking events there.

It's amazing all the political upheaval here.  This is Oprah's Hotel of Choice too!!!  100% of all her guests go to the Omni.  Seems like a contradiction in her values too!!!!!!

Your right, it will be interesting to see how, or if they deal with the media's reactions to the donation. It's more interesting to see how these groups  are supposedly "concerned with the massive infusion in corporate money..."  If that were true, they wouldn't be too concerned with these donations. Theirs much bigger fish to fry in the political contribution world. What they really mean to say is they are against any contributions that they are told will not benefit their cause.

Stewart -

We all have our voting issues.  This year the voting issue for many people is the economy/the deficit.  It's hard to fault that as the number one concern in this election.....no matter what side of that particular set of issues one happens to be.

I vote regularly, but, in these past few years it has become even more critical.

I appreciate you keeping us well-informed Stewart.

Hi Stewart... Corporations MUST be held accountable for their giving practices.  It is OUR responsibility to do that.

We have Justice Clarence sexual harasserThomas to thank. He ruled so anonymous funds can be funneled to his wife's right wing organization.

These groups like "American Crossroads" are total lies. They claim they are for small government and individual rights yet they want to expand the government to monitor every pregnancy and every bedroom in America. They never heard of "Separation of Church and State."

These groups could care less about fiscal responsibility and economics. They are strictly divisive, cultural wedge issue groups. God, Gays and Guns. That's all they're about!

Thanks for pointing this out Stewart. It definitely influences what places I frequent. I've thrown away the Target circular ever since their donation was publicized. Can't say I'm a regular at any gym but I'll remember this when choosing where to stay.
