Years of experience don't matter a hoot. It's what you do today that counts.

Yesterday someone replied to one of my blog posts saying he had only 4 years experience as a Realtor and found it difficult to compete with old pros with 30 years experience.

My reply was "it's sometimes better not to have all those years under your belt."    By way of example....the newest doctors are often the best doctors because they're up on the latest technology and information.

Long time Realtors (like most of us) tend to get set in our ways and even though we think we're open to new ideas.......we probably aren't.    Our grand kids know far more than we do in this age of technology.    That's because their minds are completely open to absorb.

A good question might be.....does the long time Realtor have 30 years experience....or one year experience 30 times?

Ideas for new and old Realtors.

- Keep an open mind on everything.

- Avoid coffee klatsches where gossip and mindless chatter abounds.  Make new friends among the movers and shakers in your community.   Associate yourself with the best and the brightest.   Intelligence and information rubs off.

- Learn about marketing and self promotion.  Make a real study of it.   Your most important asset is your good name.   Spread it around.

- Set achievable goals and achieve them.  Start small and raise the bar every week.

- Work efficiently.   Plan your day the evening before.

- Set aside one hour of think time evey evening to reflect on the day gone by and how you can improve.

- Let technology work for you.  LEARN, LEARN, LEARN.

-Discover what makes successful Realtors successful......and then employ their techniques.

These are only a few thoughts, but they'll give you a good start in getting the jump on the competition.

I absolutely agree also, it is WHAT you do, not necessarily the years in business!

Very few of my clients actually ask how many years of experience I have. It doesn't seem to make a difference for them. Why would I let it make a difference for me?

Thank you for posting!
