Ways To Spark Your Creativity For More Effective Negotiation

Brain GearsAn area of real estate that requires definite brain power is the time of negotiation between buyer and seller. Trying to find that middle ground, get to an AGREEMENT both parties are satisfied with, and move on. Often the moving on does not take place due to lack of creativity. Oftentimes you have to move fast on your feet or rely on your past experience, but more often than not you do have a little time to come up with the magic solution. The better you are with your creativity the more deals you have the likelihood of making happen. You need to sharpen up your creative thinking skills.

Give these some thought:

  • Make idea lists of all possibilities, reasonable or not
  • Use all the people in your life as resources, those business associates or even someone you have lunch or coffee with. You will be amazed where good ideas can come from
  • Take a little break and get away from the situation for like 15 minutes putting your mind in another gear like doing a Sudoku puzzle
  • Drive a little country drive in your car alone and with the interior quiet. The car by yourself with restful scenery is one of the last bastions to be able to clear your mind and think these days
  • Think YELLOW. Psychologists say having the color yellow before us, a bright folder or poster board just somehow stimulates us to think new and fresh ideas
  • Make it a habit to surround yourself with positive inspiring and motivational words. You should have some ready at a glance near you in your life. This gives you confidence you can crack this nut
  • Finally, find ways to stimulate ALL your senses beyond just your dominant sight, and what you see in front of you. Getting MORE senses involved gets the whole brain working. For taste, add a tasty food or wine tasting, for your ears, play you favorite music, attend a sporting even or shopping mall and LISTEN in to the whole surroundings, for touch involve yourself with water or pets, and for smell head to a bakery or take in fresh scents from a cut lawn or other aromas that are your faves

Thinking out of the box or NO BOX to solving a negotiation issue or a life problem is more than putting the proverbial thinking cap on. It is you immersing the full good feeling YOU into that environment. When you start to generate several solutions you will feel better, and hopefully one of them will be the right one that will stick and you will get past the impasse. Good luck.

Interesting thought abou the yellow.  Is that why you chose the color gold for your background color of your blog?

Gary, I didn't know that about the yellow.  I like your post and it shows that you are a thoughtful negotiator.

Chris Ann: Yep, the gold/yellow makes us all think. SMILE.

Elizabeth: Thanks. I can't explain the yellow. That is what the psychologists say though. I think it must open our mind more than cooler colors.

I think trouble shooting is my best asset (or at least one of them).  I do think you have to be creative and often there is risk that is associated with that...case in point, closing gets delayed and people are homeless...enter prepossession agreement or garage storage...but there is risk in that.

We are all working towards the same goal and there is always give and take and all parties have to feel like they are winning something...so it does take thinking outside the box.

Gary,

I'll have to try the yellow trick.  I never knew about that.

Some of my most creative solutions come to me while out hiking along the bluffs of Palos Verdes.  The exercise combined with sea air seems to stimulate my problem solving brain cells!  Hmm, or maybe it's that yellow sweatshirt I often wear...

Cindy: Got to be creative for sure without the possibility of leaving people homeless!!

Brigita: it was a new one with the yellow that I heard too.

Norma: I love that the yellow sweatshirt is magical for you. Something going on there. Smile.
