For Agents That Wonder Why Their Production is Down.

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with RE/MAX The Producers

Today's market has many agents wondering why their production is down.  We all know the economy is part of the reason, but many agents are also part of the reason.  Many agents were spoiled because the business came so easy, since 2001.

Recently a few of my top producers came to me for a coaching program, and one of the 1st things I gave them was a daily time log.  I then asked them, to only log activities that they did that actually generated new business from 8am to 6pm.  For example calling FSBOs, expireds, past clients, or simple cold calling.

Then they had to email me their daily time log.  Guess what, they began to realize they weren't doing much of anything, a dabble here a dabble there.  After they began to recognize what they weren't doing, they began to do it.  Recently, one of them said to me that every time they call, something good happens. Ya Think.

If your production is down, you must do what you don't like to do...  Pick Up The Phone.

and remember: The Light at The End of the Tunnel Might Be an On Coming Train.

I suggested this post - I think it's so simple that it's brilliant.  Too many people complaining about the business but not doing anything about it.  (Me too, sometimes!)

Very True Don!!

People were so used to the phone just ringing and checks coming in.

The phone still needs to ring...but believe it or not, WE may actually have to do the dialing.

The people that "thought" they were in sales just amazes me. They as we all know were "order takers". Quite honestly I like the reality check and the "weeding out" of the industry.

If you aren't good at what you do and selling homes right now...then guess what, you weren't good back then either.

Buck up...get some skills...get some drive...be accountable...AND GET TO WORK.

Thanks for serving up some reality... :-)

Don and Valerie, I suggested it to.... just get back to the basics and it will produce results... we all have a tendency to slack off a little, but keeping a log is a gareat way to analyze just what we AREN'T doing to produce business.

You are so right about working. According to NAR, 9 out of 10 home buyers begin their search online. At the same time, NAR's 2010 Member Profile revealed that only 50% of members are active on social media. The buyers are online. Instead of calling an agent first, they google. Real estate has changed and new skills are now critical. Good advice.

Don and Valerie,, I agree with this very good blog.  We need to heed Coach Lombardi's advice of "getting back to basics".  However, i also believe that real estate agents need to get up to speed with their social media marketing.  This is an area that I have just recently started to get involved in, unfortunately.  I guess that it is better late than never!
