Standing out in our north pasture, I have the incredible fortune of looking out at the world from the heart of the Bizou Basin.  What an incredible sight it is and what an incredible life it is out here in rural Colorado.  My wife Karen and I have assembled a collection of animals out here that makes our lives interesting, enjoyable and definitely entertaining.  The interaction amoung the 4 legged creatures is quite amazing at times.  Christy - one of Karen's horses and our two calico cats have an affinity for each other.    They spend time each day out in the pasture together and it is amazing to see that 1300 lb horse be so gentle and careful around the cats, who in turn have absolutely no fear of her.  Roamer, our Belgian Sheep Dog's area of interest is the goats.  His hearding instinct is strong and the goats provide an outlet for that energy and interest.  He is constantly in and around the pen.  Casey is the court jester of all of the animals.  He is a Golden Retriever and has that happy go lucky golden outlook on life.  He is interested in all of the animals and has the ability to get them to play with him.  He even gets the cattle involved in games of chase.  All in all, you can't have a better way to live.  This area of Colorado is special as we are out in ranch country here in the Kiowa-Elizabeth area, but are in proximity to both Denver and Colorado Springs.  It gives us the best of all worlds.

Take out the goats and replace them with Donkey Girls and chickens and I know exactly what you're talkign about!  (Did you know that donkeys CAN herd cats, quite easily?)  And some people think living in the country must be quiet, peaceful, and boring!  Hah!

I'd love to see some photos of your critters in your blog posts.

My cats and horses are best pals. Rural CO can be very rustic I am sure you don't have a super target around the corner? Love the post.

Thanks Tricia and Rebecca for the responses!  Our firm sponsored the Texas-Colorado Junior Ryder Cup this weekend, so all of us were out on the golf course for a wonderful weekend with a great bunch of kids and their parents!  Quite a departure from all my animals!  Casey, our Golden Retriever sure likes to watch golf though!!

Loved it Wally.  Reminds me of our farm here in Iowa.  Our labradors love to go out to the pasture and play with the calves in the Spring.  Later in the year when the calves are taken the cows are extra affectionate toward the dogs, smelling them and licking them.  They are all really fun to have around.  Hope to add a few goats this year myself.

Great group Wally. Rural property is going to be more and more population with the density of Colorado's urban areas rapidly growing.
