I'm not current on the college savings accounts that are offered now. My kids have grown past that point. This post by Darrell Walters is informative and appreciated.

College-savings accounts have improved, and now more states offer a deduction for contributing to one. Watch as Jane Clark, Associate Editor of Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine explains what a 529 plan is and the advantages of 529 college savings plans. The advantages include federal and state tax breaks and a relatively high ceiling for deposits.

529 plans are a godsend for families with children likely to go to college one day. And the ceiling needs to be high for them. College doesn't come cheap! Great info!
