Google Maps: Starring and UN-Starring. Oh my.

By
Industry Observer

If you "star" locations as you search for addresses in Google Maps, your starred locations will show up in My Maps after the list of maps you have created.

But note:  Locations can NOT be starred from within the My Maps edit function.

To create a starred location, search for the address.  Remember:  Searching for an address immediately removes you from My Maps.  When the address is found, click on the location marker to bring up the info balloon.  Then click on the star outline to the right of the address.

Clicking on the star outline will fill the star with the color yellow, indicating the location has been starred.

All of your starred locations will always show in My Maps under the list of maps you have created.

To UN-star a location, click My Maps, find the location in the Starred Items list, and click on the yellow star.

Tips:  You can NOT star from from within My Maps, but you can UN-star from within My Maps.  To enter My Maps, click My Maps :-)  To exit My Maps, search for an address.

Very cool. I didn't even know that was a feature. You can be overwhelmed by all of the amazing options available, huh?

Melissa,  There are so many possible real estate uses for Google Maps!  But the little quirks in Google Maps were driving me crazy .... So I am on a mission to document all the little quirks, so I can quickly and easily work around them...

Dear Cheryl, good ideas, could you please add these posts to the new group "Google Maps"?

    Wanda,

OK, done.   I added three "how-To" posts, and one sample community map post (art galleries) In the next couple weeks, I'll add how-to export, import and copy ....  Then I will have about exhausted my current knowledge of Google Maps.  :-)

The group was so new it didn't show up in an AR Group search, I found it by clicking Groups in your profile.

    Here it is:  http://activerain.com/groups/googlemaps
