The “Extra” Degree
I recently read a book by Sam Parker Titled “212°The Extra Degree”…the basic concept is simple: At 211°water is just hot…at 212°, it boils. With boiling water comes steam and with steam you can power a locomotive.
It’s just that one extra degree that makes the difference in be just hot and creating energy.
It’s also that one extra degree in business and in life that separates the good from the great!
There are many books which I have read where I retained a few things which have stuck with me through the years, this particular book had many. If you get a chance I suggest you read it.
Think about this…in an Olympic 800 meter race the average margin of time between first and second place has historically been .71 seconds…At the Indy 500, the average margin for victory for the past 10 years has been 1.54 seconds…at Indy the winner takes home $1.2 million… while second place receives $600,000…quite a difference.
How can we relate this to real estate? The term I like to use is “exemplary service”. If you are currently giving this level of service you are already creating energy in your business and in your life. End result you alone are responsible for the service you give your clients and unless they complain, no one but you and your clients knows. Mr. Parker says “To get what you’ve never had… you must do what you’ve never done”…many who read this will think…”I am giving the best service I can to my clients”…are you certain? Are you at a level of the professionals in your area who are?
Think about sending out a survey to your book of business asking what they feel exemplary service is…what they expect from their REALTOR…how they want to be treated…maybe even how they rate you! Take a hard look at the service you currently give your clients…is it time to turn up the heat?
