Squeezing out the Last Days of Sunshine in the North!

As many northern communities you see people doing all kinds of things that are typically summer sports and recreation.Fall Sailing - Grabbing the Gusto!

Yesterday I visited our yacht club to see the progress on some construction that will be completed in the spring.

To my surprise there were some Laser sailors in their wetsuits going for a chilly sail.  The air temperature was 45 - 46 degrees.  I snapped a quick photo as they were leaving the shore.

Then as they were converging to discuss their insanity I snapped another.  If you look close you can see the fall colors in the background.

Did you see any sun? NO!

I like sailing as much as the next sailor but I must admit...this is just short or being a polar bear for me!Who's idea was it to go sailing? Zooming into fall with Sailing.

Golfers, and others cling to the last days...until the snow flies.  One thing about sailing some do it on hard water (ice) using iceboats.  That has been one area of sailing I have been able to resist with ease.

Enjoy the last days.  I will travel south to sail in Florida next month and then again in January, February and March.  April we will start warming back up and the start all over again.

Have fun in whatever you love to do...and remember it is 5 o'clock somewhere!

I do not mind cold water, but these sailors are hard core.  I guess being in MI, you take what you can get before the first snow starts to fall.

Thanks for the Post

Hi Gary, the annual migration of "snowbirds" has already begun!  We are seeing quite a few of our Northerners have returned already to warm and sunny Florida!

Gary I know what you mean.  Old man winter is just around the corner and I am hearing it could be rough going.   In the meanwhile I too will try to enjoy the last drop of good weather. :)

Have a great weekend.

Gary,

I must admit I used to water ski in the winter in a dry suit here in CA.  I know that doesn't mean the same thing as it would in Grand Rapids.

Have a great weekend,

Steve

Hi Joey, some of us a lot of extreme thing for the love of the outdoors.  45 degree sailing is not for me on a little boat!  Thanks for the comments Joey.

Hi Silvia, I will be one of those "snowbirds" in a couple weeks.  I will be coming down to race my sailboat in a bit warmer weather than shown in the photos.  Thanks for the comments Silvia.

Hi Jennifer, it does blow and get cold in your area too.  I like the change of the seasons after living in Florida for five years.  I also like "short" winters!  Thanks for the comments Jennifer.

Hi Steve, I think using a dry suit qualifies.  I lived in Florida and the locals would wear long underwear on some of the cold days and I would be in shorts!  So depending what climate you live in to what is warm.  45 degress and 15 mile per hour winds from the North....Burrrrrr............I can feel the goose bumps already!  Thanks for the comments Steve.
