Meadow Brook Farms Golf Club in Katy Texas is getting ready to host the 3 rd annual Birdies for the Brave Gala and Golf Tournament on November 6 and November 7, 2010. Birdies for the Brave is part of the PGA Tour Charities. This charity raises money for eight different groups in the US including Wounded Warrior Project, Military Soldiers Support Foundation, OperationHome Front, Naval Special Warfare Foundation, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Homes for our Troops, Intreped Fallen Heroes Fund and United Through Reading. All of these groups provide needed support to our wounded soldiers, their families and our fallen hero soldiers families.
Bridie's for the Brave is a non-profit entity created by PGA Tour players Phil Mickelson and Amy Mickelson to support our troops during combat. For each birdie or eagle made on the PGA Tour throughout the entire seasopn, a contribution of $100 for a birdie and $500 for an eagle is made to one of the 6 military homefront organizations supported by the Tour players.
On Saturday November 6, 2010 starting at 6:00 PM until midnight the Gala will be held in the Safari Texas Ballroom in Meadow Brook Farms Golf Club. There will be an open bar, Military Presentations, Live andSilent Auctions and a special guest speaker. The guest speaker at the Gala will be Jeremiah Workman a marine who was awarded the Navy Cross, the second highest award given to men in combat for heroism and distinguished services. Anyone wanting to view his Navy Cross commendation can go to http://www.homeofheroes.com/valor/08_WOT/nc_workman.html. Mr Workman was also nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. He has written a book titled "Shadow of the Sword" which documents the time he served his country in Iraq. A Gala Table is priced at $1,200 and will seat 8 people and additional individual tickets will be available to anyone who buys a Table.
The Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday November7, 2010. Registration opens at 8:00 AM with a shotgun start to the tournament at 10:00 AM. Dinner and awards ceremony will immdiately following completion of play. A foursome cost is approximately $1,000. There are several different levels of sponsorship that are available for purchase by interested parties. I have a major soft spot in my heart for Veterans and abused women and children. I previously wrote about the Fort Bend women's shelter needing canned healthy vegetables and now this blog about raising money for Veterans. Please give to either and/or both in any fashion that you can as these are good charities with excellent missions.
