Is REALTOR.com a waste of money ?

What is your opinion about REALTOR.com ?

I have been on REALTOR.com for the last 10 years and have been faithful updating each listing complete with Virtual Tours, Streaming Video's, unlimited Text, 25 pictures etc etc.

Two Thoughts to consider before giving your opinion:

1. Under the Broker Agreement that I have I will still have the ability to have my name on the listing page complete with my name and telephone number as opposed to a Realtor who is under a broker where only the broker information is listed thereby decreasing the odds for direct leads should they come in to the listing agent.

2. Realtor.com is the #1 Search for home search BUT if no leads are coming in and 4 pictures are shown on the main page, wouldn't it be better or just as good to advertise on other higher traffic sites like: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn etc ?

In your Opinion do you think REALTOR.com is worth the value that they claim ?

Robert, I have been asking myself the same question.  However, I have NOT been diligent about adding photos & additional text ti "enhance" my listings, since my assistant who handled that has left.

I have maybe received 2-3 leads that never materialized over the past several years. I'm thinking "NO" but I have the same justifications as you list here.  I will await other comments.  Thanks!

Hi Robert,

Good question and I see it posed every now an then.

Maybe like you, I pay for the "showcased version" to upload the max. # of photos as I can. Primarily because I realize it's become the somewhat the standard of the industry...meaning everyone out there has heard of it and most use it one time or another.

Is it worth it? I guess for my version, however buying zip codes or banner ads, not a chance IMHO. I know of far too many fellow REALTORS out there who have done so with almost ZERO results.

Town or Country, in Colorado, we do it all.

I just signed up, I'll see how it does over the next 12 months.  I canceled a weekly print ad that I used for the past year and never got results from it.  Decided to try Realtor.com.  Hope I'm not wasting my money again!

Some thoughts to keep in mind, before spending money on Realtor.com

Realtor.com is NOT owned by the National Association of Realtors.   It is owned by Move, Inc*.   You pay Dues to NAR, but you must pay extra $$$ for Featured Listings and Additional Photos on "your" Realtor.com website.

*Move, Inc. owns ListHub.    Move, Inc. owns the site for NAHB (National Association of Home Builders).  Move, Inc. owns Welcome Wagon.  Move, Inc. owns Top Producer software.  Move, Inc. operates a number of other Real Estate related websites and companies.

FWIW:   Yahoo Real Estate currently has more searches than Realtor.com

Suggestion:   Invest the money into your Personal Website or Company Website - design, SEO, etc.
