Halloween and the Homeowner

By

Halloween should be an enjoyable time in the neighborhood. To help keep it safe as well, plan ahead. Keep the pets in a separate room, so they can't run out into the street and get hurt or harm a child. Keep the chocolate away from them... it can be life-threatening to a dog. Be sure your entrance is well lighted and clear of debris. If children must climb stairs to get to your door, consider setting up a table at the bottom of the steps, or better yet, at the end of the driveway. Many children have partially blocked vision with their masks, and this might be a much safer alternative. Your homeowner's insurance company might be happier, too... no law suit waiting to happen. When I lived in Pennsylvania full-time, several of my neighbors set up tables in our driveways and socialized with each other and the revelers. We had a great time, and actually were disappointed when 8:00 rolled around. A little planning can go a long way to insuring a safe and fun time for everyone. My Tigger suit kept me warm on chilly nights and amused the neighborhood children. Dressing up as you distribute candy can add a lot to the festivities... so can a little scary music.

Great idea to set up shop at the road side if in town. Anything to take liability away and enhance the exerience for the little ones is a good call.
