I am signed up to over 150 e-news letters corporate and non-corporate.

This allows me to set a benchmark for the quality of my e-mail campaigns.

If you are planning on starting a news letter or would like to improve your e-mail campaigns to prospective clients or your network, this is the perfect way to stay ahead of the competition.

Steps involved:

Start a completely new e-mail account to separate these e-mails from your clients accounts. This will allow you to track things easily and not loose any important e-mails. I recommend you start a G-mail account it has a very effective spam filter and large storage space.
Sign up to corporate e-news letters
Sign up to your competitions e-news letters
Spend 20 - 30 minutes a week reviewing the news letters - make a list of what you like and don't like
Implement in your next e-mail campaign

Good for you if you can read 150 newsletters in 30 minutes a week!

Good idea, though, to have one e-mail account for your newsletters and another for your clients and business. I'd suggest a third e-mail account, one of the free ones, for when you have to give a valid e-mail address to a place where you want neither followup nor spam. Just don't ever check that one.

Hey Bruno...I already do a brochure mailing about every 6 weeks! Would an email campaign be a bit of overkill?

good point, id does read like i meant that doesn't it.... i skim through most of them - look for calls to action, look at basic design and readability.

It's to a combo. My contact list to which have been added past clients!

Good tip to read your competitors marketing ideas. But unfortunately I do not have time to read the email I receive. I have subscribed to some and just delete it without reading.I will have to unsubscribe .

Good point, I would suggest you leave them in a separate e-mail account and get back to them when you are making changes to your e-mail campaign.

Simply having a look at calls to action a glance at the design and readability goes a long way.

I would recommend you segment your list in to past clients and prospects. These are two different messages you want to promote.

Hi Bruno...I do my own not a canned one so it can have whatever I think will interest people: Sales statistics, market trends,local trends,tips and interesting web sites.This time I will be putting in an informative blob I've already done!

Im still skewed to segmenting lists. Research shows that segmented lists achieve a higher ROI when targeted correctly.

I.e. Have a different message to buyers (prospective clients) than to your network of past clients which might be more interested in knowing the appreciation of their homes as an investment since they bought etc..

Just a thought :)

That's a good point and since I do my own...it would be easy enough to erparate out the names and customize some of the flyers!
