In Bellingham, we are fortunate enough to have as a resident a leading musician of international fame. David Lanz and his compositions are known around the world. He was one of the innovators of "new-age" music more than 20 years ago. Lanz has had several best selling albums and numerous Grammy nominations. David's Christmas season performances, which include seasonal music and his past and current repertoire, are a feast for the ears.

David tours extensively, but around this time of year, he does a performance or two near home here in the northwest. Last year he did a concert for the locals at the Amadeus Music Project in downtown Bellingham.

This season, based on local schedules that I have seen, it looks like we will have to go down to Seattle to see David's performance this year. He has done an annual Winter Solstice Concert in Seattle every year for the past several years. His 2010 Seattle performance will be at Jazz Alley, which is one of my favorite Seattle music hide-a-ways. The venue attracts top performers of various music styles, mainly jazz and blues. David will be joined at Jazz Alley by Gary Stroutsos on Indian flute and Walter Gray on cello. The trio will be playing selections from the new Lanz CD "Liverpool -- Re-Imagining the Beatles."

The Winter Solstice Concert at Jazz Alley will be on stage nightly from December 21 until December 23. You can make reservations for the show at the link, in the paragraph above, to the Jazz Alley website. If you have never seen or heard David Lanz, here is a clip that I saw over at youtube. It appears to be some unknown party shooting David on the keyboards from behind the scenes as he performs live during the Christmas season on Mexican television.

He does a great show and it is real fun when he performs in Bellingham since we are a smaller city and have some intimate venues.
