The House should NOT feel like a FREEZER!

The House should NOT feel like a FREEZER!

Just Plain COLD

I showed a home a couple days ago that was colder on the inside, than it was outside!   It was a short sale.     I know the payments are not being made, but PLEASE keep the heat on in the house to snag a buyer!

Had it been at least comfortable in there, she would have written on it!    It had to be under 50 degrees in that home!   She felt like a popsicle!October

PLEASE, Mr. & Mrs. Seller, the better you can make your house feel, the faster it will SELL!    Keeping the heat comfortable just for 45-90 days would not cost more than an extra $100.

If a buyer has a few homes to choose from, they will select the one they can stay in and feel "the warm & fuzzies" to make an offer on.   If it is too cold in the house, the buyers will be  ---- frozen history!

Having a FREEZING house will send potential buyers running for their car, and HEAT!

Temperature control is a good thing, I have encountered the opposite here in Florida. No power=alot hotter inside.

Good point, Joan.....there's nothing worse than a cold interior.....homes that are winterized and the heat is off are horrible to show.....I remember them well....it was warmer outside than inside.

The opposite happened to us during the summer. It was 95 out and probably 110 inside...sellers, make it comfortable to keep the buyers looking!

Ellen, either way --- very hot or very cold can make that home get cut from the list of potentials very quickly!

Barbara, that is what this house felt like --- a FREEZER!    The buyer could not wait to get back in her car, and it was THE house, had she stayed long enough!

I agree Joan, nothing says "run away" more than a cold refrigerator of a house. Well maybe cat pee smell, but you get my drift

Hey Joan, controlling the environment in which your prospects will evaluate the home is key. It reminds me of the movie Oceans 13 where the guy rating the hotel was put through all these negative things by the people who didn't want him to rate the hotel good. Why would we do the same to potential buyers. By the way, thanks for commenting on my blog.

Ross, having a home comfortable while viewing, is just key, especially when we have extreme weather outside, whether it be hot or cold!

Joan,
Homeowners shouldn't keep messy houses either but they are out there!  I saw one recently and the used dishes from God knows when were still on the table with caked on food in them.  Couldn't believe what I was seeing.  Needless to say, the client wanted no part of this house.

Dee, that messy home just sounds like the seller really did not want to sell!    It is amazing at how some people live!

You must have cheap gas and electricity up there. It would be easy to run up a $300 monthly bill here to keep the house warm.

Jim, I have been practicing being frugal, and unplugging appliances/tvs/computers when not needed, along with keeping the heat down to 66 degrees, and gave me a bill - gas & electricity last month just under $70.   I have 2500+ square footage, so thought that was really good!

A house that is either too cold, too hot, too smelly, too much of anything will be a sure fire way to turn off a buyer even if they sorta like the property.

I've walked into a few apartments this summer that had been cooking in the sun for days on end, definitely not a good way to make a first impression.
