Social Media are you in?

It is mindbloggling to me that so many Realtors today are not embracing Social Media! It really is easy and FREE! What more can anyone ask for? Recently I spoke to a group of Realtors that think that Social Media is a fad or a waste of time--I guess it can be--but not if used correctly! I was told by some that they are "people persons" they have to speak directly to the people--like an open house--nothing wrong with an open house but how many people can you reach at one open house that takes at least 2 hours of your time? This usually when I am working with my Social Media sites.

Social Media is not hard! Even if you start with just one thing at a time--like Facebook! We all know we should have a Facebook account in this business. Well that is a start. When I brought this up during the conversation I was met with negatives--like--that is for my kids etc. I know you are probably thinking I was talking to the wrong group but actually these were younger experienced Realtors that are doing "okay" but could step it up a notch or two or three..I have invited all of them to Activerain..not one has accepted yet. They told me they don't have anything to write about...some have started blogs but don't keep up because they don't have time?

My point is-how can you not be using Social Media in this business???

Hi Mona! I have closed a sale from Facebook and it was an upper end price range. Facebook for me is used for a variety of reasons...to keep up with my college age daughter but also to engage my "friends" even if it is about cooking...that they remember me..what better way to do that and be able to reach so many people?

It is surprising just how many of our peers are totally out of the park when it comes to Social Media and Marketing.  To me, I am everywhere at the same time, I don't have to go sit somewhere for 2 hours, I get calls for private showings with qualified applicants.  If people don't embrace it now, it will be sooooo over their head next week, next month, etc.  Great blog, it isn't hard at all!!  89% of buyers start looking via the internet to find property and agents.  Guess you and I will get the first calls.

So much to learn,so little time. Being in ActiceRain has shown me how quickly I can get to know like-minded people over long distances. With the social media, my world opens up.

The secret is to be genuine when using social media. I post a combination of professional and personal posts on both Facebook and Twitter and it allows people to really get to know me long before they ever think about real estate. The personal stuff lets them know who I really am, and the professional stuff reminds them that I am in the real estate business. It's a fantastic combination. I've received a lot of referrals from Facebook. Twitter, not so much, but I will lead people to my blog(s) via Twitter, and some folks have found me on Twitter then followed my real estate Facebook page.
