I recently had contact with customers who had the following situations!
#1 - She used Behr Paint on the outside of her house and it rained an hour after she had painted. There were issues
with the paint as she painted an hour before it rained. She was told that latex paint dries in 30 minutes. Latex paint can dry to the touch in 30 minutes
but it is not curried. She didn't understand the store and the store did not take her paint back that she hadn't finished using.
But the store sold her bad paint and she didn't want to continue using it!
#2 - I was called to offer a quote to a woman who asked the individual who brought me to her home to put cement
over copper pipe that she was putting in a new section of her garden. One doesn't have to be well educated to know
that cement is very corrosive and that the pipe would be okay if she had a coating around the pipe...but she wasn't
interested in doing anything other than having him pour cement over the cooper.
#3 - The same lady wanted me to cut the columns on her front porch and place new bases under the cut area
and caulk them. She did not understand that these columns were load baring and the porch ceiling would collapse. I am sure that
when the house is going to be put on the market with all the repairs having been made incorrectly with wrong materials that she
will not find a realtor to give her a selling price that she will willingly accept. An example is her rotten window seals have been
cemented as a repair. Someone was willing to listed to her desire for a "fix" and that is what the entire home now consist of "fixes"
by individuals who use the painters' phrase "It looks good from my home!"
#4 - Home Builder built a home that sold for $860,000 in Chesterfield, Missouri with plastic trim instead of wood around the interior doors and used
plastic for chair railing. The home in less than 3 years is now on the market for $460,000 and no takers. This house also
had 3 sides in vinyl siding and no real investment in landscaping or the proper width of drywall. Needless to say the home
was built in an un-incorporated area and the purchaser didn't hire a professional home inspector.
Some people just don't understand that a professional (such as yourself) when you find these types of customers know
that it is better not to offer your services as there will only lead to problems.
I don't know if any of you remember WordPerfect software. A woman in New York had called WordPerfect for support as
her screen was dark. After 30 minutes of phone support he discovered that there was a black out in New York. He lost his job
because he asked the woman if she had the boxes the computer come in. She replied "yes". He told her to pack the computer
up and send it back ....because she was too ...... to own one.
PLEASE share your story with us!
