Disabling the Music in Your Virtual Tours

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty TN R.E. License 292369

I found something out recently.  I asked the folks that do my virtual tours if I could turn off the music when I post a blog.  I am not sure if you realize that when you post a slide shoe or virtual tour that has music, every blog you post subsequent to that will have that music when somebody visits your blog roll.  You can ask your tour creator to give you a music command in the url.  Then to shut off your music all you have to do is set the music volume to 0 (zero).   The code for mine is "mu=0".

I bet you didn't know that many people are browsing for houses at work, and the music in the virtual tour is a give away to their co-workers and bosses that they aren't entering data in their spread sheet for the sales meeting.

Hi Mike,

That was a useful and interesting post.

Could you help me get a vacation cottage like the one you have?

Mike,

I've been giving more thought to music content on video.  Your statement about workplace surfing is providing more food for thought.

"mu= ???"

My personal belief is that music and narration add very little to a virtual tour anyway.  Consumers I've asked about this tell me they find the background music distracting.

Mike, This is smart. I never thought of them getting "caught" at work while home shopping.

Mike, that is good to know. I like music, but to have it steam and startle when I am not expecting it is very annoying. Thanks...

Like Eric above, I've heard many people say that the music is a big turn-off, so when I make my home videos now, I either have the music set really low or use none at all.  Now, for narration, I simply use text

Mike - You already know my opinion, and it's also helpful every once in a while to look at your blog like a visitor. I like your new buttons, very cool look.

I agree that many viewers are searching for property where they don't want sound.  This is why my company likes to use text overlays rather than voiceovers for virtual tours.  We are Flash it First.  Here is an example of a video with text overlays...
