San Luis Obispo County Parks Department has proposed to build a bike path that connects Morro Bay and Cayucos.

The two-and-half-mile path will start from Cloisters Park in Morro Bay to the planned Norma Rose Park in Cayucos.  In addition to the existing roads within Morro Bay and Cayucos, a new bike-and-pedestrian path running from Yerba Buena Street in Morro Bay to Studio Drive in Cayucos is being proposed.

State and federal grants are expected to fund the project.  While the preferred route is on the west side of the highway, and across Highway One at the junction of Old Creek Road, then through existing streets in Cayucos, and ending in Norma Rose park, the exact trail is yet to be determined.

Two possible significant environmental impacts are being considered. One pertains to aesthetics, as barriers might be required to differentiate the path from the highway.  Another is the difficulty to prevent erosion of coastal bluffs that could encroach on the pathway.
