Speechless Sunday ~ Pumpkin Flower
I found this little pumpkin when searching for the perfect pumpkin at the pumpkin patch! I have never seen anything like this. I couldn't believe how much this looks like a flower! This of course is the pumpkin I chose. My husband wasn't all that thrilled, so he got his own! I think it is perfect.
Pumpkin is a form of a squash, although the pumpkin has a much more rigid, prickly stem than a squash. According to Wikipedia, the oldest found seeds date back to as early as 7000 BC and were found in Mexico. The pumpkin plant actually does flower, although the bright, colorful flower has a very short life span; as little as one day. Pumpkins are grown worldwide and of all of the continents, Antarctica is the only continent unable to grow them. The US has the largest crops of pumpkins and produces 1.5 BILLION pounds annually. The top producing pumpkin states are California, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
