As you may know, bald eagles reside in 49 of our 50 states - none have made it to Hawaii.  Those in the Northeast migrate south to Virginia in the winter months while those in the Southeast migrate north to Virginia in the hot summer months.  Our normally mild climate is a primary reason in addition to the large supply of fish in our rivers, tidelands and lakes.  There are numerous attractions to bring you to the Commonwealth in addition to the fishing.  If you have never had the pleasure of enjoying our hospitality you really owe it to yourself to visit the state the fathered 8 US Presidents.

Howdy Karen

You have done a fine post.

There is one thing you may want to know. Misssouri has the highs no. of migrating Bald Eagles in the winter.

My family came from Virginia in 1800 to Missouri

Have a good one

Bright

We have many bald eagles due to our tidal rivers, lakes, reservoirs and marshes.  Thank goodness Ben Franklin didn't have his way and make the turkey our national bird.  We had a nesting near Mount Vernon - the pair was known as George and Martha.  Marhta died and George moved away - they mate for life until one dies.

Thank you for your comment

Springfield!  Used to be in the Outer Limits, and now considered part of D.C.  I moved here (St. Augustine) from Stafford.

I didn't know that about the eagles.  Although we used to go boating near Dumfries (can't remember the name of the river) in this bay area that had a large contingent of eagles.  They were easy to spot because of their size and the shape of their heads.  We took binoculars and would look for their nests.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.  I mostly miss the spring and fall there.  It's so beautiful.

The river would be the Potomac - Aquia Creek is a "river" near Dumfries.  It is lovely in spring and fall - leaves coming and going.  We love the Blue Ridge in the fall
