Braemar Halloween Safety Tips

Hard to believe that it's time for Halloween.  I know that my house is full of candy, the pumpkins are carved, now all I am doing is waiting for the witching hour.

In preparation for tonight, here are some safety ideas for parents and kids alike:

1.  Go out in groups with at least one adult chaperone.

2.  Don't wear masks that obstruct your vision.

3.  Don't wear long costumes that you could trip over.

4.  Allow knock on doors that have their porch lights on.

I grew up knowing that last rule well.  If a porch light was off, that family was no participating in Halloween.  Same goes if you run out of candy.  Turn off the porch light.   Heck, I've even done it during dinner time.

If you have pets, make sure they are in a nice, quiet room to themselves.  Halloween can be frightening for them.

Happy Halloween!  Looking forward to seeing all the wonderful costumes tonight.  Stay safe.

Jim:  Should be kicking up your way about now.  Halloween here was over before 8pm.  I was shocked.

Great safety tips.  And it looks like you got them out just in time for Halloween.  Hope you and James enjoyed your Halloween.

Pat:  The post mortum in our neighborhood of Braemar will be nothing to speak of except a bunch of houses, like me, at the end of cul-de-sacs that parents didn't feel like dragging their kids too are now running a serious surplus of candy.

Halloween here never started. Lots of decorations but no one trick or treating. Trick or treating died years ago.

Jim:  That's a shame.  I get a kick out of seeing the little kids all excited and dressed up in their costumes.

My rule was if the porch light wasn't on, that meant it was OK to T-P the yard. Because you just knew everybody was huddled in the back of the house somewhere watching TV by flashlight.

Elizabeth:  Used to see a few T.P. incidents back in the old neighborhood growing up. None around Braemar, thank goodness.

It turned out to be a good night - Not to cold here in my neck of the woods.  I played chaperone.  We were out for about 3 1/2 hours and received plenty of candy and could still feel my legs!!  All in all a good night.

Kimberly:  Three and a half hours of trick or treating is a long time to be out.  Wish my parents had been that generous with their time when I was a kid.

Halloween was a bust for us, as usual.  No one comes down the gravel road to our house so we don't even both to stock up on candy.
