Cowboys Trick or Treat... Not Much Fun to Watch...

By
Real Estate Agent with New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County

Sometimes it really is true... that a picture is worth a thousand words.  Some other times... especially if you were unfortunate enough to be within earshot of Mr Jerry Jones... owner of the Dallas Cowboys... and were NOT able to be wearing a pair of industrial-strength earplugs... the picture below may have been worth several thousand very loud and unprintable words... uttered by the Cowboy's owner.

Today... the poor, dear Cowboys got blasted again.  The final score was 35 to 17.  The game, and the lambasting the Cowboys received, was unfortunately much worse than that.  They were absolutely man-handled.

Mr Jones' boys... affectionately referred to as "Da Boys" by their fans... sat dejectedly... as if almost in a trance.  So did many fans, as can be seen by the pictured-below "fan in the stands"... who chose to be anonymous.

It is unusual for any football fan to be "lukewarm" regarding the Cowboys.  It's not quite like the "love 'em or hate 'em" New York Yankees... but it's surely in that "ballpark."

I really feel badly for the Cowboys players.  Growing up, and always "hating those dratted Yankees"... I could always pick at least ONE of them... those Yankees... who I felt I "hated."  That's the way it was... growing up in Cleveland.  But, with the Cowboys... it is different.

I cannot think of even one of "da Boys" that anyone "hates."  Any player who may have fallen into that category has been "shown the door" and been either traded or thrown overboard by the Cowboys and Mr Jones.  What that has left the Cowboys with... is a locker room that is pretty-much devoid of any of those "trouble-makers" and "rabble-rousers from years past.  The locker-room is fairly close to being "plain vanilla" now.  Unfortunately, so is the team.  No "crazies" left.  No "trouble-makers."

At least, that is part of my take on the team, and also part of the "take" of many of the Dallas-ites and Fort Worthians... and Arlingtines... who have for years followed the Cowboys... and lived and died with them.

I guess things weren't all that bad when Da Boys had Jessica Simpson in the stands rooting for them.  When that was going on... there were those who made fun of Jessica and Tony.  There were also those who thought focusing on her was kinda silly, and also thought that "things could always be worse... ."  Well... things are worse.

Luckily... all is not lost for the Dallas/Fort Worth sports fans.  At least we have our Rangers.  They came through last night here in Arlington... and beat the San Francisco Giants in Game Three.  Game Four starts in a few hours... right across the parking lot from Cowboy Stadium... in the beautiful "Ballpark in Arlington" where the Texas Rangers play.  What more can a DFW sports fan say... but...

Go Rangers !

Cindy:  Yum... you said the magic word.  Chocolate !  It is so funny how just that one simple word can cure so much of what "ails us."  Lemme see... just where DID I put that bag of chocolate bars ?

Deborah:  I wonder how the Packers would be doing if Bret were still there.  I don't know the ins-and-outs of it all... but from down here... one just wonders.  So... I know you're in Idaho... which means I have no clue who your husby would be rooting for.  Yeah... I hate it when the teams mis-perform.  Which leads me to my poor Cleveland Cavaliers... and that schnook LeBron James.  Not that I wish him any harm, but I just wonder exactly what an appropriately-placed banana peel would do if he stepped on it.  My bad.  He worse.

Sussie:  If I follow ANY football team... it would be either whoever Bret Favre is playing for, or the Cleveland Browns.  I was thrilled last Sunday when the Browns beat last year's Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.  Cool Beans !

But yes... I DO feel badly for the Cowboys players and their families.  Gosh... the pressure they must be under has to be unreal.

Just my opinion, but the biggest problem with the team is the owner.  Get rid of him and I'll bet things would change for the better.

Lorrie:  The only person I know of with enough loose change... about 1.2 Billion Dollars right now for The Cowboys... would be Mark Cuban... the owner of the Mavericks.  So, would Cuban be better, or worse, than Jerry Jones ?  I am not sure.  Also, if neither of those, who would you pick ?

Marilyn:  Last week my beloved Cleveland Browns beat the Saints... fairly well, as I remember.  We the "aints" all wearing bags at one time ?  Maybe you need to go into their locker room and dance for them before the game.  That should get them revved up enough to knock off their opponent... regardless of who they are playing.  <smile>

Sherilyn:  I am not a Cowboys fan.  I do not wish them ill... I just really don't care one way or the other.  Browns fan, here.  I also actually rooted for the Packers when Bret was there.  Yup, was a cheese-head... in my own minor way.  And yes, they all do get fairly well paid.

Rebecca:  I wish the Rangers well... and hope they win, but really would not call myself a "fan."  I have been in Fort Worth since 1982... except for a seven-year residency in the DC area from 87 to 93... but have only been to ONE Ranger's game.  I would like to see them win... for the fans.  Their fans support them... and have done so... through thick and thin, as they say.

Karen, I have live in Southern CA for 17 years and I will ALWAYS be a COWBOYS fan! WIN or lose, I am there as a fan! You can't win every year and maybe next year will give US a better year and closer to a WIN, but guaranteed I will be cheering for the COWBOYS! ;)

I've been a Cowboys and Rangers fan since the early 70's and I've stuck with both through the good times and the bad.  I walked into the office this afternoon wearing my Cowboys sweatshirt and my Rangers baseball cap.  And even after today's disappointing performances, I'll still wear them both with pride.  :)

My solution would be for Wade the head coach to fire Wade the defensive coordinator, and for Jerry the team owner to fire Jerry of general manager.

A great coach will never work for Jerry.

Ms Karen- While I will always root for the Texans over the Cowboys... when it comes to the Cowboys vs any other team outside of Texas.. I will root for the Cowboys.  People talk of getting a head coach who can motivate the players.. well if $$$$$ isn't enough to motivate them then get rid of them.  If they're making all of that money then get out and play like you are.

BTW-  sorry about the Rangers last night... I'm rooting for them too!!!!!

If the Cowboys need a trouble maker to thrive, Randy Moss is released on waivers. What a big whiner he is!!

The Cowboys just are not very good! The true definition of a team that was over rated at the beginning of the season.

Waddya mean it wasn't fun to watch?  It was fantastic, y'all!

America's Team?  Now that takes a Texas sized ego to make that claim. (of course, there's no shortage of those in Texas)
