Like many other states throughout the United States, Texas is a Prairie State. Three-quarters of the land was once natural prairies, savannahs and tall grass. We must all act now, responsibly to preserve and conserve and restore the remaining tallgrass praire heritage.
Beautiful pictures. Out here in San Diego, CA. we don't see much when it comes to prairie grass.
Ah, Victor. but you have sand, and where you have sand, you have the bay and the ocean, and where you have the ocean, you have surfers!
So is that it's official name Patricia? I always called it 'tickle grass'......as you sneek up behind someone and tickle their ear!
Those tall grasses can be found here in Denver also --- it really adds to landscaping! Beautiful pictures!
There is a lot of interest now in restoring our plains and prairies with native grasses that are drought tolerant and disease resistant. I got some very good information from our local county extension agents.
Cynthia, I like that... tickle grass! I never thought of it that way before, but it sounds good to me! I'm not a crafty person, but I would think you can use them in wreaths and other floral arrangements, what do you think?
Joan,
I appreciate you visiting and letting me know they grow in Denver too. I didn't know that! You're absolutely correct, it adds to the landscaping just as baby's breath does to roses!
Have a great day! :)
Tricia, thanks for recommending the local Cooperative Extension for additional information about restoration of native plants and grasses. It's a beautiful addition to landscaping as Joan Cox from Denver said.
Have a great day! :)
Patricia - Those are wonderful photos. We have similar issues preserving the sea oats that protect the sand dunes from erosion here in Florida.
Hi John,
Thanks for compliment! I think it's really important to preserve the sea oats that protect the sand dunes from erosion in Florida and all coastlands, lakes and rivers. Erosion is a serious problem. I wish more people would think of the earth as our home, and as a home, it's our responsibility to maintain it just as any other house made of of bricks or siding.
Patricia,
Nice grass! I think we have some of this on the prairie!
Ann Hayden in Wildwood, MO
Hi Ann,
Thank you so much for taking the time to make a comment on the tall grass photos. Where is Wildwood? MO is a beautiful state! I had to pass through Mo to get to TX when I moved from IL. I'm willing to bet MO does have lots of prairie grass!
Beautiful grasses Patricia, I love to see them swaying in the wind. I took a picture of one in passing. See it here speechless-sunday-sitting-by-the-curb
Hi Dee, oh your picture is very pretty! I agree, I love to watch them sway in the wind. I wonder how many poets were inspired by that thought?
As a former prairie girl, I can appreciate the beauty of the wide open spaces, seas of grass and big blue sky. Nice pictures!
HI Georgina,
Your writing is like poetry. That "Little House on the Prairie," voice comes through in the way you write. Beautiful! Simply beautiful!
So how did you end up in Maui! Not a bad place to land!
