Mouse and Cheese

I've arrived in New Orleans. This is my 4th trip here and I enjoy the city.   I was rather surprised at how run-down the airport looks although the cab driver did share they had plans to rebuild it prior to Katrina.  I met some other Cyberprofessionals at the airport and we headed to our NAR hotel, the Astor Crowne Plaza in the French Quarter.  First impression:   Not enough help.  I expected this since my dealings with the hotel prior to scheduling our meeting was very frustrating.   As we lugged in our luggage and boxes for our meeting into the lobby, one bellhop with a cart stood talking to another employee and made no effort to assist us.  Ok, so we saved some tip money.

Check-in was really s-l-o-w.

The 4 of us are from 3 different times zones so we headed out to lunch/dinner.  The French Quarter is dirtier and smellier than a remember but we had a good meal and were back before dark as recommended. Lots of wierdos were walking around. The hotel was hosting the Bobby Jindal victory party.  He did win so they actually even got to celebrate.

I was watching the election returns when I saw something out of the corner of my eye.  A MOUSE!   No...not a computer mouse.  A live mouse.   EEEEEEEEK!!!!    I called down to the desk and the gal didn't seem particularly surprised.   She said "Would you like us to remove you from your room, ma am?"    NO....I would like you to remove the mouse from my room!!!!!  So 2 guys arrived (I think they've done this before) with some sticky back stuff which they placed around my room in a couple of places.  I called home to my husband to report I had a mouse in my room and he said "Don't tell anyone or everyone will want one."   NOT FUNNY.

As I was laying in bed with my shoes on (I know that makes no sense), I decided I'd prefer not to wake up to a squeaking mouse stuck to some tape so I picked up the stuff and hoped for the best. This morning the only mouse in the room is my computer mouse.

And so it went in New Orleans on Day 1.

Geeze!

Talk some advice - don't go to Disney World!

The size of the mouse there will REALLY terrify you!

Sorry - slow morning.....................:-)

We knew while you were out of the office you would be in for a great adventure.  I just didn't know that you were expecting company on that adventure.

Glad we are here in the mouse free zone. Ha Ha.

YIKES!  You know how I feel about mice!  You need our office mousers Lily & Molly there patrolling your room!  I think I prefer the smoke alarms going off in the hotel in NYC during the Howard Brinton Conference!  Now that was a good time!  At least we didn't have to sleep with shoes on our feet and sticky traps around our rooms!  I can't wait to read about Day 2!  I am happy to report no mice in Gales Ferry Connecticut!

Linda, another new picture.

And a report from the road.  So perfectly real.  Reality check.  Eeek!!  I love that you had your shoes on in bed.  I'm laughing even though I know it wasn't funny when it happened.

Here's hoping for no more mice, other than the one you brought with you.

Linda, hope to see you there.  I'll be arriving tomorrow night!  Mice... frightening.  I'm a city girl- mice are not my speed- give me a big old NYC rat anytime.

I'm arriving tomorrow afternoon. I expect EVERYTHING to be dirtier and smellier than it was before Katrina, especially since so little hasactually been done in large sections of the city as yet. The airport is older and it was used as a staging area for Katrina evacuations and then went right back into normal service so I can understand that they haven't really been able to get it spiffed up very much.

Sorry about your mouse experience but I'm afraid that given the level of clean up that hasn't been completed there are probably a lot more of them all over town than there used to be. As for the wierdoes on the street...it's New Orleans!! Can't imagine, Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC or New Orleans without them!

Sorry about the mouse. I'm surpried you were able to sleep. Find out if you will if the donut place on the corner that specializes in the most delicious type of donut is still in business. It's just down the street from Boubon Street...I hope it survived Katrina.

Can't wait to hear the update of today.

I would have freaked out! I hate that stuff and would not have been able to stay in the room. That said...I wish I was there.  This is the 1st NAR convention we’ve missed in a long time!! Looking forward to further reports.

Linda, I thought the house of the mouse was in Orlando.  Will check my room well thanks for the heads up.  Arrived and there was a smell that you noticed in the air not just humid but different.  It is sad to see all the closed streets and shops, however one of my favorite dress shops here was open and of course I had to have a few!

See you tonight for KPaul dinner!

PS am going to blog on who moved my cheese

I'm just glad that you didn't wake up with a visitor in your bed!  Wouldn't that be creepy?

I was wondering what NA would really be like given the support a lot of conventions are giving to the city.  Seems like it still may be a little premature to visit again.

That's what they call double occupancy.
San Fran, Vegas, Orlando, or a host of other places would have been better. N.O. is not ready yet!

Linda, when I was a kid, we lived in a third floor apartment that was real an attic. My Mon use to keep a box of Ritz crackers on top of this small refrigerator that we had, and the mice would some how get up there in into the box. We would be sitting there and here them ruffling around in side the box. My dad would close the lid and throw them out the window.  We would catch three or four per night.

So forget about the sticky black stuff, get a box of Ritz crackers....LOL.

Your first comment when I arrived at the hotel was to check your blog to read about the mouse.  I did.  Fortunately ours hasn't appeared yet.
