The 10-acre, Machado Dairy Park, has hit its ninth step in the park planning process.  The park which is located in the Franklin Reserve Neighborhood of Elk Grove, has been highly anticipated by nearby residents for about two years.

According to the Cosumnes Community Services District Website, the average time needed to build a park varies from approximately 2 years & 3 months for a small park project to approximately 3 years & 6 months for a large park project.  By reaching the ninth phase of the planning project, this signifies that the park is in the establishment/grow-in period where it would give time for the newly planted plants and sod to grow before opening. This step usually takes about 3 months while all the finishing the final touches to the park are completed.  The next and final step is Park Dedication where the park receives a grand opening and is then finally released to the public.  The estimated completion for this park is Fall 2007.

The Machado Dairy Park is located on the North-East corner of Stathos Drive and Franklin High Road.  The park will include two separate farm-themed play areas:  2-5 year olds and a 5-12 year olds.  The park's major amenity is the large soccer field, it will include large picnic areas, an adult fitness area, half-court basketball court, plenty of grassy areas, a jogging trail and restrooms.

Although there are numerous parks in the Franklin Reserve, the Machado Dairy Park will be the first standalone park in the South East quadrant of the Franklin Reserve.

What Neighbors are saying:

"I can't wait for the park to open.  It's so close that I can walk and play basketball without being too far from home",  Tony S.

"With the park being so close, I can walk the dog and take my son to play on the playground and still make it in time for dinner", Amy B.

The Machado family has contributed greatly to the community life and activities of Elk Grove, Franklin and Laguna as well as to the agricultural industry, the local schools and the businesses of the area. The Machado Family farmed on the same land for the past five decades and took every opportunity to give back to the community.
